  • OT: New Look

I've been away for a while and when I came back I see that the forum look has changed.
    I don't like it!
Very childish / amateurish / ugly design.
Who wants to see giant icons and poorly designed grads?
    Come on!

    Me neither.

    Everything's so H U G E that I can't see the "flow" of a thread anymore. I probably don't have something set right (I'm sure of it).

They do this all the time to us at work, and then can't figure out why productivity drops off.

Still . . . if it helps get rid of those freakin' slot sucking spammers.

I generally don't whine, but I've noticed that access via a mobile device, whether by 3G or WiFi, is much slower than before. This used to be one of the fastest loading sites for me, but not now.

Why is this an issue? I'm a consultant and generally refrain from using customer networks to access TechTalk.

      Regards,

      Rob

If you go to manage profile you can change themes. I am kind of digging the mobile theme. Anyway, there are ways to change the looks, and again, if it keeps those damn spammers away I would post with a crayon on a chalk board.

I don't like the change either.

          (1) When I click on reply. There's no place to type a reply. I have to click the back buttton, and then click reply again. Sometimes more than once.

          (2) I used to type posts without tabbing down. If I do that now, the type just runs on forever on one line. I have to scroll quite a ways horizontally to find the "submit reply" button.

I can't find all my subscribed threads with one button anymore.

I sincerely appreciate PE providing us with the forum, but from an end user's standpoint the software change is anything but an improvement.

Yeah. And even though I've been on here several times, It doesn't seem to be able to remember how I like my view setup. Every time I come here, It's like starting over.
I don't get any "text" or screen wrap either.

              Frustrated.

                AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA.

                Mobile. Isn't. A. THEME.

                Stupid moronic developers.

Ok, none of those aforementioned developers work for PE I suspect - they work with what's out there, I'm sure. Though their main site isn't much to go by on mobile either. And they did customize *something* just not sure they built it.

Also, I suppose I have to be fair and admit I might have a wee bit more experience than most in this area, but geeze. I bet the traffic mix is slowly moving to mobile; I'd guess 20% on the forums or more? Maybe 5% on their main site or less, but since it doesn't work well that may turn visitors away.

                ok, rant off.

Yeah, I remember when it was just text. Of coarse that was about 3 or 4 user names ago...damn passwords. Can't remember a freaking one.

Agree with you. I wish there was an option to switch on to the older interface.

Big improvement for me. I am using a new 27" monitor which I set on 200% zoom on sites that work well and I can see all of the posts in big letters without having to scroll. Loads fast too. thanks P.E.

Trying to post photos in a previous message, I can't put the URL from my host site in there w/o getting a file-too-large message. Now I have to re-size all my photos so they'll fit within the file-size guidelines? I liked being able to insert the URL from my host-site in the text so the photo will show up in the message, instead of adding it as an attachment at the bottom of the message. Even when you click on the pic, it shows up too small. I used to be able to insert the photo in any size I wanted to. Not an improvement! The pix I just inserted in a message are just too small to show the detail I wanted to show the OP...it would only accept the pic when it was about 65kb. Am I doing something wrong? Being computer illiterate, I find these "improvements" a huge frustration. I do appreciate all the work involved in allowing us the forum and it's many benefits, but I'm finding more exasperation trying to get some pix inserted into the message. If I can't put them in there with a decent file size to show the details, I won't be inserting pix any more.

I don't prefer it either. I've tried the VB look and it's just as bad as the normal look. I prefer the old one and to be honest, I really prefer the original one they had back about 5 years ago. This one gives me the sense of a baby's room in color and design. Guess I'm just an old fart who don't like change.

If you use the file from Remote URL tab and then uncheck the box in that tab that says "Retrieve remote file and reference locally" it should use the original file at full size in your post - This works on all other vBulletin forums I have used
