I recently got some Avid 102s with blown tweeters. The tweeters in this system were replaced with Realistic tweeters long ago which were found with voice cols open; someone liked clipping distortion obviously!
Not that it would have mattered....it would have still sounded like garbage with a huge hole from 2000-4000Hz!
In addition to this, the idiots did a hack job on the tweeter mounting hole that necessitates a tweeter with a *huge* faceplate. 2 out of four holes are unusable on the old Realistic tweeters and those are pretty big. I could make a mounting plate but that might make diffraction even worse and countersinking it would be a major pain in the ****. (this box is full of fiberglass!)
Now that I have my OmniMic...we can see what these big 10" woofers are up to. Normally I'd have let old beasts like this lie, but they have a rubber surround and aren't doing too poorly for 30 something year old speakers.
So...tweeter recommendations? Ideally I'd find a coaxial sealed back driver but those don't appear to be made.
Edit...I should emphasize that this is a 2 way with a 10" woofer. Rather odd if I do say so myself!
