  • Vifa XT25SC90-04 Polarity

    Anybody know which terminal is positive and which is negative? Tweeter is unmarked, datasheet does not have polarity specified.

    The only reference I can find is that small is positive (which I believe is opposite of standard):

    I am almost sure that the Large lug is postive, and the small lug is negative.

    Lou C's write-up on his BurpingRaptor (BRAPTOR) just happened to be on my desk this morning, and per his write up the above is true. a link to his page http://www.lonesaguaro.com/speakers/...avoxTower.html notice the tweet is reverse polarity and the notes he has attached about connection.

      Nice find on the BRAPTOR writeup, thanks! I can see where Lou states the BC tweeter is hooked up reverse polarity (by explicitly stating + goes to the negative lug on the tweeter), but don't see for sure the XT is also reversed (by only stating + goes to the small lug).

      I found this datasheet on the XT25SC40-04 cousin, which has a picture where the small lug is marked red (which I assume means positive):

        Re: Vifa XT25SC90-04 Polarity

        I had some pictures of a pair I had, but deleted them. I posted a pair for sale and it might have pics in the post of the back that may help you discern polarity. Unfortunately, pictures are all blocked at my work (they just recently opened up access to forums like this, but they track me like a hawk). Here's the link to my FS thread. I don't know what the pics show, but perhaps they can help. I recall my pair had red marked on one of the tabs...I *think* it was the larger one, but can't say for sure.

          jsr thanks for your for sale link, unfortunately I could not make out any color on the tabs.

          However, I did find this photo with the large tabs marked blue (which I assume means negative):
          http://d777k.ru/777/index.php?app=co...&attach_id=604

          Between madisound's info and this pic, it does appear:
          small=positive
          large=negative

            Re: Vifa XT25SC90-04 Polarity

            A veritable sea of small XT25 tabs all in red:

            I also found three more pics with large tabs marked blue, so I am now 99% certain small tab = positive. I have emails out to Tymphany, let's see if they confirm.

                  I've Got the XT25SC40's, the ones without face plates. The small terminal is marked in red.

                    Thanks Dave for that!

                    A Tymphany rep is jumping on this for me to find out for sure, I will report as soon as I have "the" answer. Will also test for polarity after assembly, checking for crossover point suck out.

                      Cool! I thought it was strange that the small terminal was marked as positive. I just figured it was a mistake during manufacturing and it was simpler to just mark the correct polarity rather then repairing them It almost sounds as if it was done on purpose. I'll be interested to hear what's going on.

                        Re: Vifa XT25SC90-04 Polarity

                        Okay finally at the bottom of this:
                        Madisound website: XT25SC90-04 small tab (+)
                        Tymphany support: XT25SC90-04 small tab (-), XT25SC40/50 small tab (+)
                        Tymphany manufacturing: XT25SC90-04 large tab marked blue (-)

                        And my actual polarity test:
                        XT25SC90-04 small tab verified (-)

                        Special thanks to the Tymphany reps who gave actual and correct info. Hopefully they can pass that on to manufacturing to get the terminals marked/marked correctly (...and also Madisound corrects their website info).
