Babar: 18" sub-woofer build

Started building the enclosure for the PA460-8 I bought on sale a while back.
Using 3/4' birch for the enclosure with a 1/4" mdf overlay for the baffle, and am now working on the internal braces.
Net volume is going to be 200L with 6 x 3.25" x 13" ports for 35Hz tuning, and an F3 of ~40Hz.
Modeled sensitivity is a decent 97dB/W.



Plan to use Babar for casual listening in my garage as well as some light PA duty, along with my Barbells.

Nice. That should have some serious kick you in the chest ability with only a few hundred watts.

Had to go with an 18", didn't you? My 15" isn't going to be enough now. :p

Awesome Louis! I JUST wrapped up my barbells yesterday and had my first listen. You did a STELLAR job on those, I am sure you're pairing with this sub will be fantastic!

Took me about 2 hours to cut, guiding my router by hand.

Pics of more braces.

Got all the remaining panels cut with terminal cup and handle cutouts.
Gluing is going pretty slow since I only have two clamps large enough for this build :o

Side panels added with cutouts for handles and test fit of driver to make sure there's nothing in its way.
Had to make some risers to go over the handle cutouts so that the handles clear the ports; they were too deep by 1/4".

Gotta get a few more large clamps to attach the top and bottom panels, but I think that's gonna be it for this weekend.

That's some impressive looking bracing! If you have a lot of heavy objects you can glue up the top and bottom both by stacking a ton of heavy stuff on top of the cab with both panels glued.
