  • Floor port diffuser

Some of you have PMed me about where I got the diffuser I used on my Audax/HiVi project. Mine came from the old Zenith omni speakers I scored at a garage sell. Well now we make them. How does $20 a pair shipped sound?

What's the point of this device? I don't mean that as crudely as it sounds, just wondering what it does......
      Builds - C-Killa - Speedsters - LithMTM - Talking Sticks - Pocket Rockets - Khanspires - Dayton RS Center - RS225/28A - Kairos - Adelphos - SEOS TD12X - Dayton 8 - Needles - 871S - eD6c - Overnight Sensations - Tritrix (ported) - Lineup F4 - Stentorians - The Cheapies - Tub Thumpers - Barbells - Tuba HT - Numerous subwoofers - probably missing a few...... :p

If you port a speaker out the bottom, it couples or transitions it smoothly to the floor. Guess I should have shown the bottom of the towers.

As for size, any diameter within reason and up to 3.5" tall

These are some large omni- directional speakers that I did a concept design on. I was considering having to machine them from bar stock. Yours is way mo- betta. Talk to you soon.

              Cheers

Awesome design Sonic Temple, and yes they would be perfect, although I don't know if I could get a really fine point, maybe, I'll have to experiment a bit...
                As for ordering, PM me.

I'm not sure too fine a point is really necessary. I'm definitely looking into your product.

                  nice work.:D:D:D

I'll be in touch around mid month.

                    Re: Floor port diffuser

How large can they be? say 24" and how much heat can they stand. I want to use them for CFL covers / defusers?

I checked my design in Solidworks. It is currently at 8.5" diameter X 6.95" high.
As your max height is 3.5 I will run a new design through FloXpress using this height and determine the ideal diameter. I am finding that wave guides with diameters that are about 2X the the driver diameter work best to direct air perpendicular ( or nearly).
I will post some diagrams of my findings.
The design is open to all to comment on. I do not have access to an anechoic chamber so design specifics will rely on anecdotal information and FloXpress models.

                      More to come....

                      Cheers

Sorry been outta town for vacation, so I'll try to experiment on something that big..

As for something that deep, Sonic, don't know if it'll stretch that far...

                          6th,
No problem. I will run iterations at 3.5" high through FloXpress. I have been having issues with PC crashes so please be patient and I will definitely get back to you.
                          Thanks

That depends on how well the entire cab is engineered. With the right dimensions it could act as an extension to the duct, allowing the duct within the cab to be made shorter, even eliminated. But as for 'it couples or transitions it smoothly to the floor' the 15 to 25 foot wavelengths of port radiation don't require any sort of device acting as a waveguide.
