              That's what I was talking about... Not just a Xmax monster either. Strong motor, good venting, and a shorting peice.

                  It looks interesting but it also needs a huge enclosure!

                    I hadn't seen those. I don't frequent the shack much. Wow. Sign me up.

                      Re: RSS 18" subwoofer

                      One RSS460HO in a 4 cubic foot sealed box shows an f3 of 30 hz and only a slight (like 1db) hump in the response. That's pretty dang good for an 18 if you ask me. Basically a 20.5" cube, not too huge at all. Add a bit of boost at 25hz and a HP filter around 15hz. That's where I'd start anyways. I'd venture to say two of those would be enough for a large HT system provided you have enough power to feed them.

                          WinISD Pro said 4 cubic feet == f3 of 38hz and -11db at 20hz.
                          Maybe I plugged it in wrong?

                            That is very close to what I calc for 4 ft^3 -- I come up with .74 Qtc, 37.5 Hz Fc, and an F3 just over 36 Hz. A Butterworth alignment (.707 Qtc) would have an f3 of 35.5 Hz (4.6 ft^3).

                              So, with all those calculations..... A HUUUUUUGE box it would be for HT?? 4cubes for 36hz f3 naturally (with no eq) doesnt really do it for me....

                              but, for input power, the 18'' cone would still excite a b-load of air.
