  • New products for speaker builders at Parts Express

Just activated four new knock-down cabinets and have SketchUp files on the product pages (except for the subwoofer cabinet). I listened to you guys and went with MDF. These also have roundovers on the baffles. The smallest cabinets are sold in pairs and use 1/2" MDF, the others are sold individually and use 3/4" MDF. A tower cabinet is on the way and will post more when I have that in hand.

Knock-Down MDF 0.04 ft³ Micro Bookshelf Speaker Cabinet Pair

Knock-Down MDF 0.23 ft³ Mini Bookshelf Speaker Cabinet

Knock-Down MDF 0.56 ft³ Bookshelf Speaker Cabinet

Knock-Down MDF 0.67 ft³ Subwoofer Speaker Cabinet

We've heard you loud and clear when it comes to buyout speakers. We've recently went live with killer deals on some top-quality Celestion drivers that are aimed at high output speaker builders. The 5" drivers are pretty amazing. We listened to them full range with a DTA-1 and are very impressed with their sound quality.

The 15" and 18" woofers are workhorses. I could see them used in open baffle systems, in 3-way Econowave-style speakers (especially when paired with the 5" drivers as mids), and even for Pro Audio use as sound reinforcement and instrument speakers.

Thanks for the input and suggestions. We are always trying to improve on our offerings to you, so keep the suggestions coming. Enjoy!

Very cool, indeed. I may have to try these out for some design work. You can't beat the price for something CNC cut.

The .23 cu ft enclosure would work fine for a pair of utilitarian Continuums if someone wanted to go that way. They would just need to cut the front baffle.

Thanks so much for the cabinet selection I'll be looking to snag at least a couple pairs of the .56 cubic foot cabs for next years projects.

Nice choices. Hard to tell from the pictures - are the baffles rabbeted?
Don't listen to me - I have not sold any $150,000 speakers.

The sides are clearly rabbeted. The tops, backs, and fronts are not. You can enlarge the pictures and scroll around to see more detail.

I wonder if they'll sell replacement baffles when you put the holes in the wrong place. ;)

The reason I ask is because one of the benefits to CNC is the ease of assembly. These will still require quite a bit of patience in the assembly process.

Thanks, Mike. I'm happy to see these new enclosures. I kind of quit building speakers because I had to sell my cast-iron JET saw years ago. Nothing else has com close to that beauty...

I am not exited about this product either. It's not so much that I myself can make a pair of cabinets as such in an hour, it's also the fact that in case of veneering, ghosting seam issue is not resolved. Actually, even if the cabinet is painted, seams will show up too. Now, a fully 45mitered cabinet would be something special.
If it's shipped from over seas, expansion, contraction and warpage may become an issue as well.

                  Roman,
Get with the times!!! We have easily overcome hiding edges with paint. Rustoleum Filler primer, 3 fast coats, lets it dry, sand it out. DONE. I have cabinets nearing 2 years old now with this product and the edges are not present.

The product for sale here had to be manageable by a layman: aka, a general customer. Had the cabinets been mitered, the general person may not be able to lay up a perfectly square alignment. Perhaps the only solution would be dadoed and mitered..... dont know if that is possible with only 1/2'' and 3/4'' material. otherwise to be mitered, there would need to be dadoed window braces in every size cabinet.... then the price goes out the window.

IF you offered these with some kind of finish, even a faux veneer, I would be 100% on board!!!

For now I am sticking with my favorite "knock down" cabinets:

I agree with Roman, I have had plenty of problems even when wood products have acclimated over 6 months
