Slicknashville - did you pay already? I hope you get your PR soon or a refund. I would be fuming in your situation.

Yes....PAYPAL Paid in full since may 14th. Since They accept paypal only, I don't really know what my recourse could be.

Sorry to hear you are having issues, I think maybe in the future we could try a group buy to encourage them a little more maybe?

Everyone should check out his Facebook page, he recently wrote a real decent discussion on his issue, and it turned my opinion on him considerably more positive.

My Digger8 get's pretty much a daily workout and is still going strong, even on an SPA1000. Absolutely love this design.

I think a "group buy" thread is appropriate and I'm in.

OK HERE IS THE LATEST.............. I got an email from UPS telling me I have a package en route to me....I think "GREAT" but I keep watching for additional UPS email and.......nothing...... The label has been printed and the package never ships..... so I email them after four days of my label existing and still no pickup by UPS....

Think what you want about this company but it sounds like my order (placed May 15th) with a 6 to 8 week estimate has been sitting on a table an additional 5 days because.............well just my two cents

This PR may be the best thing since sliced bread but we are going on 5 months here and my long delayed order has no priority. I can't recommend doing business with this company unless you are local and can leave with your product the day you pay the man.

              Hi Paul,

Jessica made the label but had her kids home so she was not able to come in until last night. We were able to get it packaged last night and it will be picked up today.

              Best Regards,
              John

In all fairness you did ask for a product that wasn't even listed on the web site because it wasn't in high demand and wasn't terribly profitable to make. The guy said "yeah I'll do that for you." Granted I can still understand your frustration, very few people would be willing to wait half a year to get something even if they were told up front that would be the case. The right thing to do in this situation would probably have been for the guy at AE to just say "look man, I'm sorry I can't make that PR for you." But that wouldn't have made you happy either, and it sounds like the dude at AE is a nice guy and his heart is in the right place but he's over extended. So I think this was a bad scenario from the get go and regardless of what happened it wouldn't have made you happy.

Having said that, the whole deal is a bummer, hopefully the PR is great, hopefully they get some staff at AE and hopefully everything is fine on down the road. :( Don't forget to snap some pics when you do finally get this mini-beast together.

You are partially right in what you have said. I actually had conversations via text with an employee there named Jessica and inquired specifically about eta if I were to order this P.R.

Had she told me 5 to 6 months I would not have placed my order, but I also would not have been upset at all. I respect someone's decision to use their limited time to produce their higher profit, higher volume items. However I asked about the notorious 5 month wait times and even asked for the turn around time on the last two of this very PR that were shipped out. The two prior were reported to be in this same window she gave me.

I am not taking my time to write all this down to downgrade this product, I still have not even seen it. But since this thread is so old and this is still a very affordable, small, DIY project with a lot of interest I thought it was important to document for anyone new finding this thread that this problem with AE still exists. It is still just the way it was. If anyone stumbles across this thread and decided they want to build this sub with this PR, it isn't a weekend or even a 2 month project.

I may still very well love this PR and the Digger 8. I do believe John is trying, trying very hard, Kudos to him for that. And when this is all said and done, I may be willing to do business with him again, but buyer beware.......just because you re told 6 to 8 weeks after specifically asking for for an eta and then asking for proof that they can meet the deadline, they provided, don't count in it.

As for pics, I will try to get some up. I am actually going to cover the cabinet with Duratex, hopefully this week. and reassemble with PR installed. Right now I am using it in a ported configuration with port extending out of the cabinet and absurd length.

Oh, well that's unfortunate. :( It's too bad too because the AE PRs look so much nicer than the Creative Sound Solution models, but i guess the CSS units will be the way to go for people who want high excursion PRs till AE gets it's act back together.

Unless PE comes out with some reasonably priced higher excursion PRs some time soon.

It is weird but I got my PR's in less then 2 months if memory serves me correctly. In fact I had posted how long it took in this thread. My AE PR's look and sound awesome. So they do fine work, it is just too bad they are talking so long to get the job done.

Perhaps they should post something on their website that says how far behind they are so people know before they order.

HOLY SMOKES!!! I have a PR in hand. It came packaged well in a no name box with John's name on it, not AE or any company name at all..... I disassembled my digger 8 and removed my port, located, marked and cut my PR hole out (I am surface mounting, not flush mounting) tested everything for fitment, and one coat of Duratex is on. I am hoping the thick coating makes up for my less than perfection carpentry. I'll second coat tomorrow if necessary, mount legs and reassemble if it is dry.

I am eager to hear this thing.....

Was going to upload a pic, but getting errors. I'll try tomorrow.

I keep getting "upload of file failed" message on several attempts over 3 days. Maybe there is a minimum of posts before I can upload or something. But, the Digger8 is built and covered in Duratex. It does sound very good. I have found myself turning it down twice since installed. I am running the Bash 300 and the infinity 8" setup. It walks across the floor, even with a 40lb vase on top of it. I am still trying to find the best way to stabilize it (on hardwood floor).

I would definitely build this exact sub again if I could lay my hands on another PR. If anyone has any idea on my upload problem, please share.

Glad to hear you finally got your PR and are enjoying it.

There might be a min-post limit for pics, I'm not sure. You could go give some people some kudos in the Gallery forum and get your count up...

Also - I'm having problems trying to upload more than 1 pic at a time lately. So I have to add a single image, click upload, then add another, etc.... A while back I was able to queue up 5 images and upload them in a batch but that causes problems for me now (in IE).

You might consider trying an alternate browser or toggling 'compatibility mode' or something.

I think there is also a max file size and max image dimension restriction on images so you may be hitting that. Try a simple, small JPG and see what happens.

                            Good luck

Glad to hear you like the Digger8. I mentioned in my design post that AE has a history of late deliveries so there's always that risk. But I'm glad you got the PR and enjoying the sub. Rubber feet, or better yet a full rubber matt, helps keep the sub from walking around.

Hi, new to the forum and have been reading this build thread. I contacted AE about their 12" PR's and this was the response I received. I figured I would update the thread to give people a heads up if they were planning a build with the AE PR's. It looks like it will have to be a group buy or waiting list for a minimum of 10 pieces before AE will start fabrication. My guess is this is the reason the wait times have been so long in the past, AE waits until there is a minimum of ~10 before they start the build. If you luck out and are at the end of the list your wait time will be much shorter than the first guy on the this. If I decide to build the digger8 I'll be using the CSS PR's as they are readily available.

                                Hello Dave,

It is possible to do the 12" PR's. We are just very backed up right now. We also do not have a good way to package them. The foam for our woofers cost nearly $7 per woofer to keep them safe. This is very much overkill for the PR's that are far lighter. We then have to modify the packaging to keep the discs from moving during shipping adding to the cost. At this time it is probably best to start a waiting list. When we get to 10pcs or so that are ordered we could build a batch of say 20pcs to keep some extras. It is too much work to cut and paint the diaphragms for only a few pieces.

Are there other people interested in buying them? There could be a small group buy organized if that would help.

                                Best Regards,
                                John

                                Hi Dave,

It's just a matter of parts availability. We have a limited supply of things like spiders and frames specifically. A 12" PR makes about $10-15 profit at the prices we can sell them at. Building 20 would mean we could make $200-300 if we sold all 20 of them. This may take months to do so. Those frames then can't be used for anything else as they are already in a completed product on the shelf. Likewise, we may make $100-200 profit on a 12" woofer depending on the model. Far more than the PR's. If we had unlimited supply of frames, we could do both. Unfortunately in most cases we would end up with PR's sitting in boxes and be unable to fill woofer orders without the available frames. This goes for any of our woofers though not just the PR's. We only build what is ordered.

Someday down the road when there is much more money and a larger warehouse to store parts, this will probably change. For now though it isn't practical as we really have to ration the parts where they are needed.

                                Best Regards,
                                John
