Re: Digger8 Sub - diggity dig it all the way to 20Hz

Good luck with the PR; I ordered mine in early October. Had to email them asking for an update, and they said basically "soon". Hasn't been built yet.

      Hmmm, that's rather disconcerting....

Well I'll give them their 2-4 weeks and if I don't hear anything I'll kick up a fuss and let you guys know.

Yup, AE can take a while. I've read people receive their drivers or PRs 6 months after they ordered. The Dayton is slightly smaller OD so depending on the cutout diameter may be able to dropped in temporarily. Good luck guys and let me know how it comes out.

AE makes an excellent product, but their turnaround time is crazy long. I ordered a couple passive radiators a few years ago and it took so long for them to ship that I had forgotten I had ordered them until months later when I went to place the order again thinking I hadn't done so already. Made a fuss about how long it was taking and it still took a couple more months to get them. I think it is a one man operation and because his products are so good the demand is much higher than he can keep up with.

Well hopefully it doesn't take that long for me (knock on wood). I ordered two of them for the digger 8's and I am going to finish the second one. Perhaps Lee we can get together and test them out side by side one with the Dayton PR and one with the AE PR.

The Dayton PR has been giving me problems. The amount of washers hanging off the back some times runs into the brace. And there is a section of the cone of the Dayton PR that bends. The rest of the cone is good, but one section bends as it plays bass notes.

I am hoping that the AE PR that doesn't need added mass will will not have the problem with hitting the brace and that it will be of higher quality then the Dayton.

Well whoever gets theirs first and builds it should post in here! :D

I had the distinct impression via the emails that they did things in batches and needed a certain number of orders before they'd start, hence the long lead time.... I wonder if I should just bump my order to 3 PR's as once I've conquered the OS TM/MTM/Digger8 I wanted to perhaps do an integrated Speedster TMM/Digger8 towers or something equally overly ambitious :P

Won't matter. You will be fortunate if it's weeks instead of months. Great product if you have the patience.

Although I'm not convinced the AE PR's are so much better functionally than CSS PRs that they're worth the excessive wait/frustration.

I was so much older then, I'm younger than that now.

Anyone compare the TC PR's to the AE or CSS

This really doesn't bode well, especially for my first build :(

I'm afraid I don't know what TC or CSS is :S

Scratch that, did some googling -

Here's the specs of the 12" TC PR (with very detailed physical drawings, could be handy for nikbrewer when designing the cabinet):

Extensive selection of high-quality domain names. Knowledgeable, friendly customer support.

Again, here's the specs of the 12" CSS PR (again, with very detailed physical drawings):

Though the TC is WAY more expensive.... CSS, is around the same as the AE PR.

Anyone considering a slot loaded port? The cabinet could be made a few inches taller so
as to not loose any box volume. It is even easy to make it flared - I suppose it would have
                        to be quite long.

Or a pair of PE 10" passives to gain some VD but they might require too much weight.

SEAS also has a 10" PR that 300 grams of mass can be added to.

I will let you al' know when i receive the PR's from AE. Perhaps Johnny might be able to run the numbers for the other PR's to see what would work.

I was happy with the sound and output of the digger 8 until I was watching X-Men First Class and the PR bottomed out and hit the brace. I think when that happened it damaged the PR and is why it has a bend/weakness in the cone. So having a PR that is the the correct mass to begin with should eliminate that bottoming out issue.

CSS PRs are a bit more expensive, don't look quite as good and probably cost more to ship since they're coming from Canada, right? The TC sounds ones are way more expensive. I wasn't aware of the crazy lead times on the AE PRs but it looks like they're the best bang for the buck by far if you can get em. I think their smaller PRs are less of a priority for them, maybe they'd come quicker if you were ordering 15" or 18" PRs? ;)

Me too. I'm having kanemack help me with the enclosure... It's been so long since I ordered it I too almost forgot about it. Right now I have the JBL 8 in a small sealed enclosure, and it simply is not hitting the bottom octaves I'd prefer it to. No worries though.
