Up periscope! Awesome. Nice wine shelf - did you build it by any chance?
Thanks Joe. Yes I did make the wine shelf... and the bar (actually a thorough renovation of its original godawful 1970s blocky satin-black-and-white-Formica form).

Here's a couple of shots of Digger 8 build:

I've only played it with music, and I don't listen to much techno or hip-hop - so I haven't witnessed subterranean synth tones... but I can tell you that it reproduces a Bosendorfer piano and five-string electric bass (both of which have content to 30Hz) with outstanding depth and authority. It's not gonna shake the house like the quad RSS390HOs - with 2.4kW - in my media room, but it makes one helluva 2.1 computer sub!

Glad to see your guys' builds are coming to fruition.
I've been looking into another design that's smaller, roughly about 0.6-0.7cf with an 8in reaching almost as deep as the Digger8, but requires a Bash amp for the EQ boost. Any interest?
Sure - bring it on brother.

Oh hell yeah! Nik hasn't cut the wood yet so I'd be interested! I have the the AE PR, BASH amp and the REF860W.

I just got the AE PR's today. So I will have to check them out when I get home.

I finished the second Digger 8 so I have to do is screw in the PR and it is done.

Hopefully I will have some pics soon.

The Dayton PR has been giving me problems. The amount of washers hanging off the back some times runs into the brace. And there is a section of the cone of the Dayton PR that bends. The rest of the cone is good, but one section bends as it plays bass notes.

I am hoping that the AE PR that doesn't need added mass will will not have the problem with hitting the brace and that it will be of higher quality then the Dayton.

Sorry guys. I've been swamped between work and family lately and haven't time to tear apart my Digger8 to confirm fitment with smaller design. It's basically 9 x 14 x 16 in box...a shortened Digger8 with an AE PR (or CSS) and Bash 300 amp. The amp has to have the resistors changed to 15kohms and 220kohms. F3 is about the same as the Digger8 and excursion is better controlled. But again, haven't had time to confirm how close the active and passive drivers are to one another in that size cab.
And I missed getting a Bash 300 while it was on sale to test out the design. I have some MDF sitting around too...just no time to build or even buy the parts.

                Kevin,

The AE PR is slightly larger OD than the Dayton, so you might have to enlarge the OD a bit.

Don't worry, it's not distorted how it looks from the front, I was shocked myself when I saw the pic but I went back and verified it was just the light. Doesn't seem to have any additional weights nor any way of attaching them so I hope the AE PR12-970 is the right one!

Anyway, can I confirm the dimensions of the original Digger8: 9"x14"x20" with 3/4" MDF? I only mention this because I noticed the following on your modelling jsr:

Re: Digger8 Sub - diggity dig it all the way to 20Hz

Leroy R and myself are going to work on my digger 8's since the AE PR is bigger then the Dayton. Lee has everything we need to make it fit. I will also do a side by side comparison with the AE PR vs. the Dayton and compare them as I had built two of them. So we shall see who come out on top

                      Benji,
Yes the 970 is the correct model. I believe I PMd Kevin with my model numbers on that one but can't remember.
The dimensions are 9x14x20. Ignore the box numbers on the bottom. I don't use those so those are default numbers the program opens with.
Good luck and let me know how you guys like them.

Never really looked at a PR before. The cone are is made of somewhat heavy MDF. Quite interesting really!

JSR, I have not had luck in getting a reply from Mr. T. Jones for helping me with an Digger8 enclosure. Would this from PE http://www.parts-express.com/knock-d...woof--300-7077 work as well with the pr in the 12" cut out and the 8" Infinity bottom firing behind the pr with some of the bracing removed and a cutout for the sub? Thanks in advance for any help on this.

Unfortunately Tom doesn't seem to be making cabs anymore. The sub flat pack you linked is too large. The Digger8 is designed for a cab with gross volume of 1cf. You could add enough wood or other items inside to reduce the volume to about 0.85cf which is the net volume for the Digger8 but then that defeats one of the design goals for the Digger8, as compact as possible. With only 2 cutouts, the cab is relatively simple compared to say a full speaker. You can buy a sheet of 3/4in mdf and cut it yourself and have a local car audio shop cut the holes for you. You can cut the amp cutout yourself or run the amp externally. The drivers won't be flush mounted but it works. A last resort but at least it's available. Good luck.

JSR, Thank you so much for not only your excellent Sub design, but also for your timely response. In the space I have for the sub, a 15" cube works well. How would I best fill up the space to get to a net of .85 cu ft? Do I need to add wood to the sides and top internally, or would some square blocks of wood work as well? What do you think of the down firing sub idea? I very much appreciate your help...
