Hey guys, Gaelen came over to my house today and we shot a little how to video for accomplishing the faux wood look he used for his Tarkus and Armadillo builds. I must say, I was blown away by just how simple it really is, you will be too. And we all know just how cool it looks!

Great job on the editing Mark! Almost makes me look like I know what I'm doing. Thought I should mention, the Tarkus and Armadillo builds were done with one color. Here's an example of a large piece with the two color method.

Thanks for posting that video. I hate finishing speakers. Love building them, though. My son has not finished his Recession Busters, and, like me, he doesn't have the patience for fine, detailed finish. He needs something quick and easy. This technique might be perfect for him. I'll have to get him to view the video and see what he thinks of the look.

Awesome video guys! Thanks for taking the time to teach us how it's done! One of the major learning curves for a lot of people these days is watching a how-to video since they retain the info much faster that way. I'm definitely one of those individuals.

I've been thinking I'd like to try the Sunburst finish sometime. This post is very helpful. Thank you.
I was in a Michaels craft store. (Was dragged in kicking and screaming by my wife. That's my story and I'm stickin' to it!) Anyway I saw a display for this professional spray paint. The reason I'm bringing this here is because they have a transparent black color that I was thinking may be just the ticket for the fading edge treatment of a sunburst paint job.
At $12 a can it ain't cheap but...

Black spray paint. Covers the edges, and gives the cabinet that cool "vintage guitar" look.

I'm thinking of a shot of the transparent pigment red that Wolf turned me onto for the Deuteriums, followed by the black, to try to replicate Fender's "three color" sunburst.

Just sand and seal your edge grain to make it (and keep it) smooth, and all will be well.
