Re: Am I the only one here with "P.A.D.D."?
Wanting is better than having. Unfinished projects keep the interest up. Hell it took me 30 years to attempt my first design.

I had the PADD syndrome too ... Avoiding the "Free classified" forum is the first step!

Right now, I don't feel like doing anything, but in a month when I have a few days off for Christmas break, I'll be in the basement guaranteed cutting wood.
This way, I'm ready when I feel the need to create something. I don't have to order a thing, just start making sawdust. My wife understands me by now, or at least lets it slide. She's good that way. I'm lucky!
I've always had a stockpile of drivers, amps and stuff to build stuff with on hand, but I'm wondering if clearing out inventory and just purchasing parts for a specific project when I need it wouldn't be a smarter way to go about it. I'll probably never know!I do have plans to greatly reduce the stuff I have and give a bunch away to friends/family. Besides, there's new stuff coming from PE that I want to get my hands on.

I'm still working on some wedding speakers for my best client. He got married (wife #3) in November of 2010. Keep changing the mid/tweeter ideas. Tundars are still in MDF. "Little" projects get pushed ahead. Then it's the weather. Now that it's beautiful here in AZ, I'm back to being sick, (this time pneumonia). Got a 2 car garage filled with drivers, ideas & half built stuff.

Well... My last name does start with PADD.
My minions project still looks like my post from July 2011:
And my subwoofer repair/rehouse project has stalled long enough that I'm concerned the surround repair glue is too old.
Serious question: The glue in my PE foam surround repair kit is about 1.5 years old. How old it too old?

Re: Am I the only one here with "P.A.D.D."?
Umm, this extends waaaaay beyond speaker projects for me... My wife says I have too many hobbies. (Don't tell her this, but I think she MIGHT be on to something). I always have a list of projects that is way too long to tackle. I built my HT sub 2 years ago and it still sits in the same un-finished box. Granted, that's mostly because I don't want to have to go without a sub while I work on the finish. Of course, I've changed my aesthetic design for my HT system, so I will end up building a new box and finish it while the bare mdf box continues to function.
A perfect example is this plane... The first picture was taken Dec 28th 2006, the second on Feb 18th 2007, and it looks about like that today, sitting on the shelf in the basement. It's not so much that I got bored with and and don't want to finish it, but I have so many other projects going on that I never take the time to sit down and work on it. I even have another plane that I started about 9 years ago and it sits in almost the same condition.

Re: Am I the only one here with "P.A.D.D."?
^^^This guy has waaaay to many drivers to use, and yet won't get rid of them. I'm the king and have about 10 projects in planning stages.
I've only built ONE pair this year so far, and that has not happened for about 10 years, with normal yearly rate being between 3 and 6.
Yet- 6th is right- I dream about speakers both night and day, and wish I didn't have to sleep so I could get more built.
Too many drivers, so little time. (Especially with kids!)
Later,
Wolf

Thanks to the OP for covering this! I'll just say that I feel much much better after reading all these replies. :D

Re: Am I the only one here with "P.A.D.D."?
I already had to pay to export all this stuff OUT of your country, it would cost a fortune to send it back.
Shipping costs wreck everything, on average lately I pay roughly 25 percent of regular retail price (or less - sometimes much less) for my audio purchases but sometimes shipping costs more than the package. In the last couple of years I got 31 high quality (IMO) drivers and put together a 500 piece beginner crossover kit (with an lcd meter) for approximately $750. Shipping was about 1/3 of that, and I even had a friend bring all the larger packages across the border to save several hundred dollars on shipping. Can't avoid duty and taxes though, even on private sales and used stuff.
Still, at these prices I have no guilt at all about having unfinished projects.

Maybe you’ve seen me on the street corner with the sign “will work for audio gear” ?

....if I could only have the hours of lost sleep back that I spent thinking about speaker designs, I'd prolly have the time to build even more speakers...
