Has Anyone Seen the New Kits Lineup at DIYsoundgroup?
Re: Has Anyone Seen the New Kits Lineup at DIYsoundgroup?
Wow, this is all very exciting. I thought that the Alpha 8 Minion looked like an interesting speaker. I love the tall cabinets with the front ports. And with the octagon woofer just looks like an awesome speaker.
I also really liked the looks of the Karma 8. As I have not heard one of these waveguide speakers before I cannot comment on the sound, (Which is the most important thing to me) perhaps someone can comment on their listening impressions of these speakers. Because if they sound as awesome as they look then I want to start some projects ASAP!
I like the idea of the whole Econowave line but the 8" versions excite me the most since the baffle isn't much larger then what you would see on a typical 7" two-way but the sensitivity and maximum output are much better. Jeff, any chance you would ever consider an 8" 2.5 way TMM in the from of a small tower keeping the same 9 1/2" baffle width? It wouldn't take up any more floor space than the 8" 2 way on a stand but the performance might be closer to that of the 12" 2 ways.
Jason
It all depends on how the two way turns out, as to whether I will want to expand on that or not. Here's a pic of the raw two-way speaker:

I've been working on this 8" eminence alpha8a.
Looks like that's a beta8a Jeff? Have you had a chance to listen to it yet? I've spent quite a bit of time with my alpha on this design and a couple others. It's a great 8"er. I didn't realize there were so many 8" designs coming.

Ryan, I thought you were sticking with that 8" for your in-wall SEOS-12 design. I'm ready to get those kits going when you are.
I posted that design about a month ago when I started :p There's so many designs even you can't keep up. :D
Will go in wall with it later. Need another SEOS12 and DNA-205 before I can start those.
There are a lot of good designs. The goal was 3 'categories' for each woofer size from 8" - 15". Then an 'Other' category for designs like dual woofers, quad woofers, or whatever.
I thought you were still going to figure out a different mounting method for that in wall. Or at least that's where I thought we left off! Maybe I'm losin' it. :D No surprise though.
Re: Has Anyone Seen the New Kits Lineup at DIYsoundgroup?
DIYsoundgroup/Erich's knock down kits are far superior and better for the money
than PE's OS TM in cheap plywood. But as you can see for those that browse
there frequently, they are sold out a lot, especially on the OS MTM's.
Re: Has Anyone Seen the New Kits Lineup at DIYsoundgroup?
If anyone comes up with an in-wall version of the Alpha 8 I'd be forever thankful lol These look like perfect surrounds for a 7.1 setup, call me crazy.
Erich if you ever want/need help with the website let me know. It's my intent to start a tech consulting/web hosting company when I get out of the Army, but I want to do as much as I can at no-cost to give back to the DIY community. Let me know if I can help with the website in anyway.
Check out the breakup just over 2K, the SEOS 12 may be a better choice with this woofer anyway. FYI, I'm using SEOS 12 waveguides with 10" AE TD10M woofers and there are no issues with the large waveguide.
