Does anyone local to chicago/illinois have the alpha 8 minion or the alpha 12 zephyr? I would live to have a listen in person. The fusion 8 alchemys are interesting too but the woofer doesnt look as visually attractive to me. I dont do grills either!

I let the speakers play all day while I was at work- full range. Came home and crossed them over at 80hz. I have 3 subs so low end is taken care of.
The Faital opened up. You could physically see that it was moving more than when first put it.

I'm not good at describing speakers but here you go-
Huge sound. Easy to listen to. Very neutral. Sound was even across a wide area.
Initially not impressed, but now I just want to keep playing music.

I have to sell them though :( Even though they are a small speaker and they sound great, the old lady wants something smaller. Can't blame her, it's just for watching TV, and these are way overkill for that.

So if anyone would like a set already built at a reduced price, let me know.

Sent you a PM about the speakers.

I've done OS MTM, Swope MTM, and various combo's of drivers. I've had Energy, Klipsch, Polk, Boston, KEF, etc. speakers.
I would say the sound of these is unique. I like the high's, probably better than anything I've built, and I think that's due to the waveguide. The mids.... I'm not sure I'm qualified to comment. They weren't my favorite, but this could be due to the fact that I've only run them about 4 hours before the miss' said she didn't want them.
I honestly think they need a break in period. That and I didn't get to play around with different stuffing.

I can say they will play anything you throw at them and they will play loud without sounding loud. Not sure if that makes sense.

Thanks Jeff. FWIW, I opted for the 4ft stand approach because I wanted to get an idea of what the speaker's 4PI response was like, and with a stand that high I think any aberrations in the measured response cause by reflection from nearby surfaces would be below the speaker's passband. It looks like we basically ended up with the same results, and from the impedance curve the alignment looks pretty similar too.

Jeff, the FR curve that's posted for this design here - http://www.diysoundgroup.com/wavegui...sion8-kit.html, can you give me some details on how the FR measurement was performed?

I'm about to send an e-mail reply to someone interested in building my Blastoramas, in which I'm suggesting that he have a look at that kit first before committing to cutting wood. My Blastoramas seem to have a very similar LF response to that kit, but of course if the FR measurement process is very different, that might not mean anything at all... . For my Blastorama measurements, I think I just put the speakers on a 4-foot high pedestal far away from any boundaries and took the FR using HolmImpulse.

    Jeff,

I have been interested in the Alchemy 8's and the MTM version since I saw them. I am buying a new house and will have a fairly large room to fill with sound. It will be approximately 20X30 to the end of the room. But the actual sitting distance from the TV/Sound will be around 12'. So I am contemplating a new speaker system. I have also been looking at the Fusion 4's as they look like an interesting design. I am looking to get some descriptions of these various designs to better make a decision for this next system.

I was thinking of running the Fusion 8 Alchemy's for R-L duty and use the MTM for a center channel. What do you think of a setup like this? And could you give any sort of an description of the sound?

    Thanks a million,

    Kevin

    Thanks,

BTW, I finished a pair of your Contimuums in a MLTL and all I can say is these are probably my go to speakers from now on. I really can't see them being improved or outdone. I have other speakers I like quite well, but they really don't do nearly what the Continuums do sonically. They are simply GREAT!

Ryan - Yes, it is the Beta 8-A - a pretty stout 8" driver.
    The Master Beta?
