Re: DOTD "Audio Grade Duplex Receptacle" Only $125
Part of the fun is seeing how over the top ridiculous the reviews get. But I think it's probably past the point where anyone who sees them would certainly just write them (the reviews) as a joke. It's more fun if somebody actually thinks they are serious.
I bet they sell quite a few of them... to installers. Who turn around and resell for $379.

Re: DOTD "Audio Grade Duplex Receptacle" Only $125
When I bought this house from my grand-parents estate, I remodeled it, and rewired it. I ran a dedicated #10 gauge line to a oooold Sola Power Conditioner from my sister's old color photo printer that's under the floor, then to the outlets where the TV, and stereo gear is installed. I went to Home Despot and bought 20 amp commercial grade receptacles (GFI's were terribly expensive 27 years ago or I would have bought them) and I drove a 6' 5/8" ground rod into the ground after drilling a hole with a 3/4" drill bit and lots of extensions, and poured ammonium nitrate fertilizer into the hole, drove in the rod into the dirt after I put some water in the hole, then connected my big ground braid to it and the grounds on my recepts. All my gear is grounded to the ground braid. No hum, no ground loops, no problems. Much better radio and TV reception too.
What's the point of a $125 receptacle unless you have a gillion dollar electrical drop into your house and a gillion dollar panel with gillion dollar breakers and $600 a foot wire from the panel to your million dollar power conditioner then to your $125 each receptacle? Think about it.

Re: DOTD "Audio Grade Duplex Receptacle" Only $125
Dear Sir,
Confidential Business Proposal
Having consulted with my colleagues and based on the information gathered from the Nigerian Chambers Of Commerce And Industry, I have the privilege to request your assistance to transfer the sum of $47,500,000.00 (forty seven million, five hundred thousand United States dollars) into your accounts. The above sum resulted from an over-invoiced contract, executed, commissioned and paid for about five years (5) ago by a foreign contractor. This action was however intentional and since then the fund has been in a suspense account at The Central Bank Of Nigeria Apex Bank.
We are now ready to transfer the fund overseas and that is where you come in. We lack 20A sockets to power our wire transfer. Please purchase forty-two(42) of these sockets and mail them to me so we may start the transfer.
Please reply urgently.
Best regards
Howgul Abul Arhu

Re: DOTD "Audio Grade Duplex Receptacle" Only $125
What amazes me, and not to disparage our beloved PE, is that they sell them at all let alone advertise them as a "deal" at $125. I can certainly understand the reasoning behind installing commercial grade outlets costing up to $20 or maybe even $30 each but things like this are just ridiculous. In fact, I'll wager they'd test with worse contact quality than a standard commercial grade outlet due to the cryogenic hardening of the contacts. Twenty amps is twenty amps other than noise and other problems not solved by these."We are just statistics, born to consume resources."

I've said it before, and I'll say it again, commercial grade is about as heavy duty as you'd ever need. IF you want a step up from that, get hospital grade, anything more than that is just overkill.

Every penny PE makes selling this nonsense means lower prices and better products for the rest of us. It's like Vegas . . . cheap rooms, decent entertainment, thank the idiots out there "gambling" . . . (but don't be one of them)."It suggests that there is something that is happening in the real system that is not quite captured in the models."
