I went MIA for a while and they came out with a whole Ultimax line and a Reference 18". That's pretty amazing to me. If I just leave for another year maybe there'll be a reference 21" when I get back or something!

I just had the flat pack cabinets made up for the 15" and 10" model. The 12" should be here soon.

Have patience...they are on sale in the new flyer starting next month.

The 12" version showed up at my house today that I'll be using in my open back build. I hadn't realized they are carbon fiber cones. Nice looking driver!

"Thick, one-piece Nomex honeycomb covered cone with woven heavy-duty glass-fiber" So it's black fiberglass. But basically as good for our purposes. Looks slick I like the dish without a dust cap thing they've got going on. Very reminiscent of the RE Audio X X X and other expensive fancypants subwoofers.

Edit: Wow you can't put the letter X three times in a row. I really like the PE boards but some of the censorship options they have going on here are ridiculous. I wonder if it's defaults that they just have set to max or if someone is actively making this stuff up.

Do these have lower distortion (sound better) then the RS line, or are they more about pushing air and power?

Not sure if that has been measured yet. The RS line is probably still going to be a benchmark in low distortion. If I had to guess, I'd bet that the new Ultimax line is all about extension and spl in a sealed box and may not exhibit as low distortion as the RS line or as much high frequency extension (eg, if you wanted to use one in a 3 way speaker), but will probably exhibit lower distortion when used in a scenario where more low frequency spl is desired in a small sealed box, maybe with the help of some bass boost.
