    Re: Biggest sale regrets

I had a 89 (I think it was) Honda CRX Si that had 120K miles on it. Never lost any oil during oil changes. It had a typical Honda rust problem and needed new brake lines, but I sorta wish I didn't let it go so easily because it never failed to start, was fun even with its lower power output, and parts were so dirt cheap. I think I did the front brakes (pads, rotors, calipers) for like $120. I love working with all new parts when they are cheap. Also, no matter how heavy my foot was, I don't think I ever got less then 32MPG.

Apparently there were a fair number of QC issues with those - coatings flaking off the magnets or something.

No regrets here from selling, a few from buying. Things like expensive wires, boutique caps, stuff that any intelligent person knows is no different from the commodity versions. But there's a point in everyone's life when they're young and stupid I guess.

As for missed opportunities, I ended up finding a pair of the JBL SUB1500's I lamented missing out on in this thread...and still haven't found a way to use them. ("JBL/Revel or Aurasound?" Nice first world problem to have, I know.) Otherwise, even Madisound's fire sale on the mighty Aurasound NS18 a couple years ago, don't really see why I'd need more than one of those.

We were in a hurry trying to get out of our house for a move overseas. Not until a month later did I realize I had left behind, in the garage attic, my very first speaker build...a pair of bi-pole RS 40-1354 w/ an upward firing tweeter in a ML-TQWP. Called the dude that we sold our house to and he basically told me I could go fornicate myself. I still think, six years later, about waiting outside for him to leave...

I had a pair of Altec Lancing A7-500 speakers. The clearest and most natural sounding mid range I have ever heard. You could reach full concert volume of a rock band with a 30 watt per channel amp even in the biggest room. They were huge , not monkey coffins, Gorilla coffins. I moved into a mobile home and my wife wouldn't allow them in the front door. I sold them cheep to get rid of them. I still kick myself in the **** for doing that. Could have put the components into something a little smaller.

            Re: Biggest sale regrets

In my twenties I had a pair of Polk towers and a BIG carver amp and matching preamp, and a mini system with a REALLY REALLY clean and spotless Sansui and AR3 speakers. Both sold of as money got thin in college, what a waste! I really enjoyed both of those systems.

Reading this thread made a Mike Keneally song pop into my head. It's a song about getting mad at a friend for selling his car to someone else instead of you.

An AcDelco am/fm radio, because my 68 Camero went with it.

My 87 Grand National. I sold it for a down payment on the house we're in now back in 2005. At this point, I pretty much gave the car away w/ about $10k because the housing market tanked so bad. I know I won't have another one before the kids are out of the house, and by that time I'll probably be too old and laid back to be able to drive it the way it needs to be driven :(

Ouch. I never realized how sweet Grand Nationals could be until I tried to add some perfomance to my 3.8L 88 Reatta (w/green CRT touch screen display).

Altec 9440A power amplifier. Picked it up for $10. Let it go for $300; they go for twice that or more now, but I wish I'd just kept it.

Oh, and my '99 Audi A4. It needed work, but would've been worth it. Traded it in at a loss.

Had a pretty sweet Precision Power art-series 4 channel car audio amp back in the day. Black with circuit board etched on the front cover. bada$$ looking. I hear they are worth a good penny now. Sold it long ago :(

Haven't been into home theatre stuff long enough to have too many regrets, but i'm sure they'll come in time. Do somewhat regret my Denon 3312avr purchase right when it came out.... saw it about a year later for close to 1/2 the price. I did not expect it do drop that much so fast. Bummer. Happy with the avr, just not with the price.

The later SCed 3800s could be a lot of fun too. A friend of mine had a Grand Prix GTP with some basic mods. A SCer pulley added gobs of low down torque. Even in a larger car, it took off very well.
I wouldn't ever build it (gobs of work/money/full custom restore), but I'd love to drive a properly done Fiero with a modded SCed 3800 engine in it. I think even Corvette C4 brakes can be fitted and their is a little aftermarket support on suspension upgrades.

Sell stuff? You can do that and not just hoard electronic gear?

I had a 63 Corvette (split window coupe) back in the late 70's. Sold it for $2000 and bought a 69 GTO (judge engine) and sold that a year or so later. Whenever we see one of those at a car show now my wife knows I will whine about not hanging on to them.

I just saw my old Infinity monitor speakers in my son's basement - told him I want them back to see if I can salvage anything. dont remember what model but they are, ~4' tall, 12" woofer, emit tweater - about 90 lbs each. Very much non-WAF

The guy that used to fix my car amps if I fried one had the fastest GTP in the world for a little while. I met him when the electronic brake booster went bad in my Grand National, it was $1200 to replace it; don't remember how I found Ken but he fixed it for $80 by replacing some things in the circuit board. After he did that I brought all my cooked amps to him. He did the computers for a place called ZZ Performance here in Grand Rapids https://www.zzperformance.com/

I met him when the place was just taking off, then he got too busy to mess w/ my amps and what-not. I think he still holds the record for the 2nd fastest Grand Prix GTP http://www.3800pro.com/lists/quarter.html

Until I met him, I had no idea how cheap and easy it is to get a SC'd 3800 into a low 13 sec quarter mile.
