  • Who has done a folded-horn Subwoofer?

I have an old 15" Quattro (new in box) that I bought five years ago and never ended up using it. Thank God the T/S sheet is still in the box or I would be screwed now that PE no longer carries it.

I have never been a big fan of building something "normal" for myself....built a lot of sealed and ported an slotted subs for customers but never for myself. I have always concentrated on single-driver TQWP's. That being said.....

Has anyone ever tried an 80"+ folded pipe? I have sheets of 1 1/8" flooring plywood (about 12 of them) in storage and wanted to try a project that might only play in the garage for a few days. Mostly just to see what it would sound like. It would be too big to put in the house lest I build a new couch in the garage to go with it. I have played a little bit with the old MJK sheets that I have access to, but am interested in hearing if anyone else has tried it?

I am open to suggestions and ridicule.

I built a BFM Table Tuba. Impressive for two cheap MCM 8" speakers.

            Ask here:
This area is for people that like to build your own speakers and subs. Share ideas and get the most out of what you do.

Lots of horn designs in that forum, perhaps already with the Quatro... and PM me with an e-mail address if you'd like the pdf data sheet.

            Have fun,

This woofer works in lilmike’s Cinema F-20 horn.

Here is the first of my Cinema Horn series. This model is pretty good sized, at just over 20 cubic feet, but has a manageable footprint of 4 square feet. Dimensions are 29.375" wide, 20" deep, and 60" tall. It cuts out of 2-1/4 4'X8' sheets of 3/4" ply, bracing is strongly recommended based on...

Its 4.2 meters. Remember ¾ OSB works fine. If this is in your garage after you fire it up it will give you a chance to meet the neighbors before your wife shoots you.

If you have a problem finding the plans let me know

PE keeps the web page available even after an item is no longer available (most of the time). It is just hard to find sometimes if you don't have the part #:

Re: Who has done a folded-horn Subwoofer?

Back in '02 I built a LABhorn to keep up with a pair of Altec A7s.

Here's what Scott Faller of TNT Audio had to say about it at the MWAF 2003 in Lima,Ohio.
Scroll down to the Chicago Horn Club. They shut me down after about 30 seconds because it was a bit too much for them...

Being 45" tall limited my front projector screen to only 4 ft tall,so I designed a horn using the same parameters as the LABhorn, but in a cabinet 33" high x 48" wide x 13.5"deep with one LAB12 driver.

I built four of these(equivalent to two LABhorns),which worked well, but took up quite a bit of room.

Then in '07 I built a tapped horn using the Lab12 driver that was 14" x 18" x94" based loosley on a design by William Cowan. Hornresponse wasn't able to model them at that time. It worked so well I built a second one.I put them in the garage with an opening into the living room behind the main horns.

I had replaced the Altecs with my DIY turned round horns a year or so before this.
