This thread is totally making me want to go back to tubes. I must unsubscribe....must resist...must resist.
You have more than ONE room in your house. And you definitely have more than one pair of speakers. Come on Bryan.... you know you can't resist anymore!!! Maybe we'll have a few tube amps at Iowa this year! Ya' know, I think I see a glimmer of another DIY forum!!! Tube amps are fun to build/modify/re-purpose and even more fun to listen to...

Being the lazy bum that I am, I'd rather pay Craig to build one for me. His stuff is crazy nice. How would I hide it from the wife though??
With the number of speakers you've made and the way you do the photos and on-line stuff at the DIY shows, I'd say you're far from lazy. As far as WAF for a tube amp... those things are beautiful! Get one that's not too big and she's sure to love it. Besides, when she sees how happy you'll be, how could she say no???!!!!! ;)

In the garage of course! That's how I do it. I hide all kinds of things out there and she never even notices, except for once or twice she went digging through my garage dust bin and discovered receipts of illegitimate purchases. Ouch!
It's my thread so it's okay for me to go off topic... There is a small cigar shop just a mile or two from my work. I've stopped there before because they sell old cigar boxes for $1 each (I don't smoke cigars or anything else). If you were at DIY Chicago you might have seen my external crossovers for the Trials in two cigar boxes. Anyway, I stopped by there today and scored two really nice looking boxes. The lady working asked what I wanted them for and when I told her for a tube project she said that was really cool because her father used to work on tube radios and tvs. So she said "enjoy, they are free". One of them has no finish and the other is nicely finished:
So here is what I am thinking...
I'll start a new thread if/when I under go my next tube preamp project
Made a bit of progress after work. Here are a few pictures. One has a pair of old EL34 tubes, the others are KT88's. The power transformer is not really mounted yet because I hate the cheap shiny finish on Hammond products and I'm not really fond of the Edcor "Blue". So all the iron will be bead blasted and painted a nice high temp satin black like I've done on my other tube amps.
