Well, my latest acquisition isn't exactly new music but it is a new release.

Re: Something NEW you're listening to

Unfortunately classified with other hair-metal poseurs, probably a reason I never heard about them when they were releasing albums in the early 80's through the 90's. I got Hall Of The Mountain King and Power Of The Night after hearing one song on one of DirecTV's Sonic Tap music channels. Savatage...great lead guitar, and progression not found with the similar-era hard rock bands. Seems lead guitar has been lost these days by all manner of "new" bands. All I've seen is just two-three rythym guitar players and not one ever plays a good lead riff or lick. Anyway, I was also interested to find out that some of the members of Savatage are now doing the Trans-Siberian Orchestra. Savatage's early stuff is the best, starting with Sirens/Dungeons Are Calling (the very first two albums released on one CD) and those previously-mentioned ones. Definitely well outside of the then-current hard rock/metal bands with their sound, time changes, and progressive qualities. I'm really loving their sound, especially now that I've got my car stereo put together and installed. Amazingly good on the Statement Monitors. Although known for some top-40 hits, the Greg Kihn Band has a great recently-released live album that blows away their radio-play hits. Kihn's son, Ry, plays lead on the live album...yes, actual LEAD guitar! I think the release date was in the mid 2000's, like around 2005-2006. Been enjoying those two bands lately. Not for some tastes, but anyone that enjoys old-school hard rock & metal will like Savatage.

i hope they are back together, but this album might be from already recorded songs that never made an album. they broke up because joy and her manager husband, nate, were haveing issues with the direction the badn was going, what ever that means. i hope they do get back together, they have some really good music.
