Savatage...great lead guitar, and progression not found with the similar-era hard rock bands. Seems lead guitar has been lost these days by all manner of "new" bands. All I've seen is just two-three rythym guitar players and not one ever plays a good lead riff or lick. Anyway, I was also interested to find out that some of the members of Savatage are now doing the Trans-Siberian Orchestra. Savatage's early stuff is the best, starting with Sirens/Dungeons Are Calling (the very first two albums released on one CD) and those previously-mentioned ones. Definitely well outside of the then-current hard rock/metal bands with their sound, time changes, and progressive qualities. I'm really loving their sound, especially now that I've got my car stereo put together and installed. Amazingly good on the Statement Monitors. Although known for some top-40 hits, the Greg Kihn Band has a great recently-released live album that blows away their radio-play hits. Kihn's son, Ry, plays lead on the live album...yes, actual LEAD guitar! I think the release date was in the mid 2000's, like around 2005-2006. Been enjoying those two bands lately. Not for some tastes, but anyone that enjoys old-school hard rock & metal will like Savatage.

    John,

I've been a Savatage fan since the late 90's. If you like them, check out Edenbridge as well as Delain. Female vocalists so not exactly the same, but great stuff!

I like the Savatage tunes like Chance or Wake of Magellan. The album Streets: a Rock Opera is very good.
    People hear with their eyes.

Yeah, but it appears that things were patched up enough to make a second album. They posted handwritten notes on their homepage not long ago... Thank goodness...

Awesome! Just ordered both of those Savatage albums.

As for new music, I'm enjoying the new Clutch CD, Earth Rocker. But due to it's compression, it only sounds good on earbuds or in my car.

Unto The Breach is the fifth song of Clutch new album Earth Rocker (2013).http://www.pro-rock.comhttp://earthrocker.com

I have not had time to listen to anything new, with the exception of the basement-recorded demo tracks of my wife's band.

Johnny, I like the whole album. I guess if I had to pick a song it would be "Flowers in Your Hair" or "Ho Hey".

Re: Something NEW you're listening to

I stopped at a garage sale that had CDs for 25 cents. So I bought 40, hoping to get a few good ones. A pleasant surprise was the soundtrack to The Big Lebowski. It's an eclectic mix of performers.

There's a flamenco version of Hotel California that is strangely compelling.

Psychedelic Rock (by Kenny Rogers, yes really) - Just dropped in (to see what condition my condition was in)

Captain Beefheart - Her Eyes Are a Blue Million Miles

Stones' Dead Flowers done by a country singer

Tracks 2, 5, and 8 are my favorites. A lot of people like #1.

They sound straight out of Austin, but they're actually from Dallas. They came to Minnesota for the first time a few weeks ago, and I immediately bought their albums (that's quite a thing for me to do for a modern band.)
                            I am trolling you.

Well, I picked up my first TT yesterday... It's a Pioneer PL-1150 that I gave $40 for locally off craigslist. I immediately went to Goodwill, and found 12 albums for $.50 a piece that were in very nice condition (clean with very little pops or static at all). This is one of the albums, I am too young to have ever heard of him, but I thought I'd give it a whirl, and I like it!

Even though I try to tell everyone upfront, understand that I am still a Newb. I wish the status of Seasoned Veteran/Senior Member, etc. was earned with time not posts...
