    Wait a minute...

When placed in series, each 1 Ohm resistor drops half the voltage... That's the key difference between series and parallel. (In parallel, they both see the same voltage, but split the current by a factor of 2. In series they both see the same current, but split the voltage by a factor of 2.)

Thus with two 10W, 1 Ohm resistors in series, you would end up with 2 Ohms (of course) but now you could handle 20W total... (still 10W each, but if you want to treat them as one resistor... then it's safe to say it's now a 2 Ohm, 20W resistor.)

that's what i thought but i was on another forum and a guy said it works both ways...eh the internet. the help has been great. just checked my email the tweeters and sidewinder coils are coming today and all the other drivers and ports and such tomorrow. i'm waiting patiently(yeah right). my paint guy is getting the 2 stage paint ready free o charge dark red for the whole box. if you're wondering why red auto paint...these are for my garage and it matches my mechanics tool box.

None of those resistors are dissipating a lot of power. 10W is more than enough.

a couple aethers questions for paul

hi everyone i'm new to this hobby but i think i'm already hooked. the way i stumbled into this is i wanted to build speakers for my son as a project we could work on together. so i hit the web and landed on a forum where they were selling used speakers for hundreds of thousands of dollars. i was pretty awestruck by this and figured there had to be a low budget high quality plan out there. that is when i found paul carmodys site which led me here after a search for parts. thank you sir for your ideas.

so i have built the overnight sensation mtms for my son and a sprite for my wife, but now i'm building aethers for me. here's the questions- you said the cabinets were lined with carpet padding and stuffed with fill. how much fill approx? when you list the resistors they are pretty low wattage have they ever failed? the 2 ohm ones are back ordered so i ended up with 2x 1 ohm in series for 20w power handling but was wondering if i should switch out the others just in case. the overnight sensation work great with the same power but the aethers seam like speakers i'm gonna go crazy with the volume.

that's all i got thank you for any response and keep up the great work.

p.s. any other projects hiding out there not on the undefinition page?
Working...
