  • Best 4" full range option ~$75/pair

I am on the quest for a full range driver pair to replace the horrible drivers in my girlfriends old school realistics. Id like to stay under $75 for the pair. Any ideas? It has to be used full range as modifying the baffle isn't an option with the construction of the cabinets.

Here are some pictures of the current drivers as an example of what a good speaker isn't.

Check out the MK Sound Vifa Coaxial at ApexJr. Look pretty good for $14.95. About halfway down the page..

+1 on the RS100. It needs a circuit to flatten out the rising response near 20000Hz. Or if you like it leave it as is as it will smooth out off-axis.

Should ha e tossed the volume info in there. I am working with a max of .28ft3^ but can add an interior wall to shrink it up or stuff it if need be.

I had looked seriously into the rs100, as well as this tang band coax that a member here has for sale, both pairs would also run me about the same amount, the TBs being a little less.

It is exactly 4.125". Rear mounted. There is a nice gold grillcloth on the front baffle that cant be removed that my girlfriend would kill me for damaging.

Here are a few actual pics to show what im working with. They are very nice looking speakers, but thats about all they have to offer.

However they were a gift thats apparently loaded with sentiment - which i must respect, therefore i must fix them.

And the exact volume is .25 cu ft. I typo`d earlier.

That's an option. I know your uncle would love to test one or 2 for ya...;) The foam 'gasket' just inside the frame lip should mate up well to your hole from the rear for a good seal.

Does $102 Canadian equal ~ $75/pr US? Just curious, I do not pay attention to rate of exchange or what Solen charges vs the rest of the world.
Don't listen to me - I have not sold any $150,000 speakers.

Just so you know- that grill fabric is known as 'tweed', and I believe PE sells the fabric to redo old torn ones.

I think this is a generated pic instead of an actual photo, but I think it's close:

But ErinH is selling his FR124's in the classifieds for less than that I think...

Trust me, my girlfriend and i both love the aesthetics of those airborne drivers, but if they are going to make it into a project of mine that cone is gonna show

Btw, the mounting hole diameter is 4 15/16", the small diameter is 4 11/16" and the larger is 5 3/8".
