Re: A Proposal from Jeff - Need your feedback

I might be willing to donate some flyer miles to Jeff, if he were willing to do it somewhere south (like Austin, TX).

Otherwise I'll be chipping in for the webinar!

Have video, will travel! I have real video lights, Canon video cameras and lenses, I can arrange for BoomCams or whatever is needed. Give me some lead-time, and I might be able to get Winner Communications' production semi up there with all the people needed to do a "small market" college football game or the Union High/Broken Arrow High football game. I've run their Chyron for them enough on short notice for free they owe me a BIG ONE by now. Once it's "in the can" DVD's, Blu-Ray's, and streaming is easy.

I would love to attend to such an event, but being in another country makes it kind of difficult. The video idea sounds great, I would buy it for sure and it might even be included on the purchase of an omnimic as part of the instructions...

Jeff, you better get the biggest room. You're likely to need it when the DIY world finds out!

And how about a trip west to the Pacific region?

P.S. The effects of beer on measurements and our perception of sound...

First, this took off faster than I expected. I'm leaving in the morning with the family for a few days on Lake Michigan at a little town we run off to every summer. I'll check in, but not as frequently as normal.

Second, before everyone decides that this will be a joint venture with someone like PE, please keep in mind that I haven't decided to do that and may not. I have not talked with anyone yet, and since I have a strong relationship with another vendor I had considered asking them to come. However, PE may still be to be a part of it all, this is still in the thinking stage.

Third, I have no idea of a date or what exact preparations I will need to make. I'll start looking into it as soon as I return from Michigan.

Fourth, I will likely use OmniMic and DATS (so PE might get involved) since these are used by a lot of people and are plug and play on my lap top. Since I will be using OmniMic I have already thought about contacting Bill Waslo to see if he would like to join me.

Fifth, I am not sure I am sold on the video recording and live streaming. This is all new to me (doing the seminar) and those things take some of the casualness out of it and leave little room for error. I will have to think about that. I would be more comfortable if the first time is a bit more intimate of an experience. We will see, like I said, still thinking....

    Jeff
Jeff, I think this will do alot to advance the hobby. I understand your reservations about the live stream/video aspect but maybe it could be done after the
event like some of P/E tutorials. When I built the Aviatrix kit, it was very helpful to have
the video tutorial to go back to for the X-over assembly. Maybe P/E would produce a
video for exactly for what you propose. I'm sure most people on this forum would love
to attend an event like this but life, logistics and money will play a part. I can only see this as a win/win for P/E and us newbies, please consider the benefit to all outside the ability
to go to Kokomo. Maybe you could win an Oscar for the video. Best of luck Mike

Another definite maybe here. This would be great for those of us who learn better by seeing and asking questions. I would do all I could to attend. And to you Jeff, thanks for all your contributions and even entertaining the thought of something like this. This is what makes PETT such a great community.

Even though I am too far away to attend ( west coast), I think it's a great idea. It would be very helpful to someone (like me) who is wanting to start measuring and designing.

This is a great, great thing you're proposing, Jeff. Here's hoping that it happens.

That would be great if vendors don't do it or if Jeff decided not to have vendors do it. I am sure the diy community could pull together a great video tutorial while still allowing Jeff to demonstrate without feeling constrained by trying to make a video at the same time.

Sounds like a perfect plan - with a couple months notice.

    Don,
IMHO I believe there are no stupid questions, more that there are people that make assumptions and screw everything up because they didn't ask. To me that is stupid, not the person who asks because they don't know and want to learn. Just my humble opinion... :D

    Wow, Jeff!
It sure would be cool if you could make a video for us long distance guys. (Camtasia Studio 8)

Recording means you can edit. and if you dont like the result you never have to release it :3
    Just a thought.

I am planning to attend Iowa, and am greatly looking forward to it. That said, I'd trade that trip for this one in half a heartbeat. The brief presentation that you made at InDIYana on PR's convinced me that not only do you know more than the rest of us (although I knew that a looong time ago), but you also have a flair for presenting and instructing in an engaging, non-intimidating manner. If this happens I'll be there (barring life getting in the way, of course)!

Also, I see no reason why several of us couldn't informally record the seminar, and subsequently get together to edit the footage for content and camera angles, and stitch various bits of footage into a cohesive video for public consumption.

Kokomo is a 12.5 hours drive from me. Not too bad.
