I used that method as well.

Household Goop is magic stuff. Once that stuff takes hold, it's pretty much never coming off. I would use that in conjunction to some sort of tape to hold while the glue dries.

Nah, Duct tape is your friend. I've done the same.

Alternately, have had just as good of luck with a nice 2" wide tape without issue (I used duct tape, which may get some other people to suggest better options).
There is no pressure on the port, other than when you move it around or bump it, so it doesn't require a huge amount of holding force, just enough to support the weigh of the port so it doesn't come apart.

I used e6000 and also wrapped blue tape to hold it together. Seems to work pretty good.

I'm building a pair of these. What methods have prior builders used to connect the port tubes together? Merely gluing end to end with Crazy Glue seems inadequate. If I can find a plastic tube with an ID similar to the OD of the port tubes, I'd feel more comfortable. Any suggestions?

I agree on the 50 watts. Good judgement on how much to turn up the volume is usually necessary in these pursuits.

Thanks for posting the design Paul! I recently built a Sprite & I'm enjoying it.

The TB 6.5 TB-w6-1139sif-sub--264-919 is such a great value.
Well, to be fair, you did use a 25 watt plate amp with it. That W5-1138 can handle much more.
