I know I'm late. Paul, I don't have the resources to model, but, could you tell me how 4 of these would perform in the same box? I am looking for SPL and portability. Thanks.

I'm not Paul, but you'll need 4x the box size. At that point why not just go to a bigger driver?

Hey guys, I would like to consider a reasonable 5.1 set-up in a smallish room using the Voxel.

I have a set of the quarks, but i need two fronts/center and a possible Yammy receiver.... Any suggestions Paul? Or anyone?

Robert - if you can get 3 more quarks, I'd do that. 5 Quarks and a Voxel. For the lower end Yammy - I love the RX-V477 (which is now replaced by the RX-V479).

If you can't get 3 more quarks because they're NLA, then check out my Mariposa's. I personally think they did OK when stacked up against the Quarks at InDIYana. The Mariposa's use the same enclosure, but they use still-available drivers, and they're 8-ohm's (meaning they're good-to-go with lower end AVR's).

And would the Quark center be enough sound about 8' away?

Well - I currently power my voxel with one of my modified Pyle PAMP100's bridged to mono. I would think for lightweight sub duties on the voxel, you might not even need to modify it.

For a plate, I would think Dayton SA70 would be ok. I believe the SA25 is too lightweight. I would aim for something in the 70-100W region. If you add a plate amplifier, remember to compensate for the additional volume consumed by the amplifier (i.e. make the sub enclosure larger by an equivalent amount).

Regarding the 8-foot listening, I think the quarks would be just fine provided you're using the "small" setting (crossover >80Hz) on your AVR and you're listening at reasonable volume levels. If you try and push them to movie-theater levels, they may struggle a bit.

There's always the OS MTMs as mains and the OS center, leaving the Quarks for surround duty.

Definitely a thought...but I wanted to keep down costs, more so the size of the speakers. I don't think my wife would like the color of those drivers..lol.

I don''t mind using the Quarks, but I can't see one as a center! Or can I? The only sure thing is I need definitely is to use the 2 I have.

I will need a plate amp/Voxel driver, sub cable, 3 speaker kits and, 5.1 receiver.

There's no reason why you can't use a quark as a center channel (IMHO).

Hi Robert, If you like the Quarks then I would pick the additional kits up from Erich and have a matching system. The Quark will be just fine as a center channel at that distance. They have about the same sensitivity as the Continuum, they're just more limited on the low end and in max SPL, but I doubt that will be a big issue. Should make for a cool little HT system. Invite a Bose lover over for a listen and see what they think.....

Thanks Jeff, I believe the Quarks will make a cool theater system in a small room as well with a small subwoofer. Just need to decide which small sub to build.

Ha ha, but I don't know any Bose lovers. I did check into the sound bar last year at BB...I just couldn't get into it, particularly with the large price tag.

The Voxel, I think will be easy to build. Just need to figure out how with a plate amp.

Btw, I switched from the Kairos to the Quarks last night using the Marantz Mono blocks. They did not embarrass their big brother next to them.

Thanks, that convinced me so....Paul, Jeff, Tyger and Mr. Fastbike, I just ordered the Voxel parts, the 3 Quark kits and now pulling the plug on a Yammy. Never heard one, but it might be nice to compare with the maranzes....we'll see :applause:

Picture says to use 1.5" x 9" vent, but on listed things there is to use 2x Speaker Cabinet Port Tube 1-1/2" ID x 4" which is 4" long, glued together should be 8" long. Could someone clarify which length is correct, or maybe I'm wrong with my calculation.
