  • Anarchy tapered horn as bass bins?

Has anyone used the anarchy tapped horns as bass bins? I am wondering how a pair would sound with O.S mtm's on top powered with a single plate amp for the lfe.

    You mean "tapped horn"?

Yes, I do at work with a pair of little monitors. A/V receiver with a sub out and a Kenwood stereo power amp. Sounds fine, very narrow. In the background of this pic. There are two, one for each side. I would use a stereo power amp for the two subs, not a single plate amp. Or two plate amps. There is no room to mount a plate amp in the horn. If you have a sub out, you can use any amp.

The Anarchy Tapped Horn would work great with OS MTM's on top. The only problem is getting the OS MTM's to stay put. I build the digger8 sub and have my OS MTM's on top. I had to use double stick tape on the sub so they wont vibrate off during LFE.

Let us know how it goes...

IMO, you'd want something with more bandwidth on top. A vented Anarchy would be a better choice, or maybe (I haven't modeled it, so could be wrong) a 4th order bandpass to cut down on crossover complexity. (A "tapped horn" is really a 6th order bandpass box.)

I am thinking about using a 300 watt plate amp with 2, 8ohm Anarchy's in parallel from the LFE sub output and crossing 80-120 hz. So these would be my subwoofers. I want to get away from my single big awkward subwoofer. The wife ok'd tower speakers too, so this idea popped in my head.

Pallas, are you thinking there would be a gap between the anarchy top end and mtm low end? I will play around with win isd pro.

I don't know your mains, so can't really answer. However, 120Hz is way too high for this kind of resonant 6th order bandpass box, if you want bass, too. IMO, 80 is optimistic, too.

Closed with EQ/vented and maybe 4th order bandpass are just better bets. Lose some efficiency, gain needed bandwidth.

Well here it is..Exodus Anarchy 6.5" 25hz tapped horn designed by yours truly, LilMike. Much appreciation to lilmike for sliding me the plans and letting me build it early before he measured it and made them available. I Got the pleasure of hanging with lilmike and getting this sub measured...
