  • Wiring for tapered line-array of 16 full-rangers? Help!

I'm trying to calculate the wiring of a tapered line-array using 14 HiWave BMR12 8 ohm speakers I just ordered from PE at $5.50 ea. Who could resist?
It's been a long day so I need help with calculating impedance for parallel wiring of these three series groups: 3 speakers totalling 24 ohms, 5 speakers totalling 40 ohms and six speakers totalling 48 ohms respectively.
Anybody have a quick solution? I'd like to keep the result 8 ohms or higher.
    Thanks in advance.

UPDATE: DThomas answered my question. Thanks to all who answered so quickly.
Love this forum! One day in the tech future a group of us will be going out together for a virtual beer after one finishes a project.

I just realized I posted '16 full-rangers' in the title instead of 14. As I said, it was a long day yesterday- crappy one too, with car repairs etc. I won't bore anyone further-thanks to all who knew I meant 14.

You have a solution your current wiring nets you 11.4 ohms. higher than your 8 ohm objective.

Man does not live by measurements alone, a little music helps.

But that is not tapered the way he wants it.

Thanks very much. 11.4 is perfect. I'll be driving this array and a sub (8 ohm) with separate channels of a stereo PA powered mixer but in case of a failure I want to feel safe that I can chain both speakers to one side and not go under 4 ohms.
I appreciate the help. I haven't calculated figures using unequal values before- my other line array was 9 (8 ohm) speakers in 3 series-parallel groups, so easy 8 ohms there.

I wanted 8 or more ohms in case I had to chain it with another 8 ohm speaker on the same amp channel for emergencies. Also wanted to use all 14 speakers. However Dave calculated 11.4 ohms for the setup I described, so perfect!

How is this project going? Any details or pics? Sounds like a mini line array or something….?
