  • Re: being an audiophile has given my friend brain rot :(

People willingly give their money, their time and their soul to many things that lack any kind of objective rationale - are we so surprised, even now, that people drink the kool-aid or tithe the church or buy the cables? Are any of us really exempt from ridicule for having done so?
Don't listen to me - I have not sold any $150,000 speakers.

Man does not live by measurements alone, a little music helps.

Well I guess the chance has now passed of your opening up about how you hold your audiophile beliefs. This is a pity because understanding how audiophiles deal with observations and measurements that contradict their beliefs seems to me to be a lot more interesting a topic than poking fun at those beliefs.

A discarded alternative would be to place all cableing normal to the earth's center of gravity, such that gravity would not pull the electons to one side of the cable. The disadvantage here, is that the electrons traveling downhill would be conveyed slighly faster than those traveling uphill. This would could cause severe non-linearities in the music reproduction. Also, it's likely that some electrons would pool in the lower component, and the resulting negative charge would create what I now call "Gravity Capacitance" I think we'd all agree how bad that would be.

Now, If one were to create a a shaped cable, following a parabolic profile (think about NASA's "Vomit Commit") the electrons could follow a ballistic trajectory. With the proper geometry, centripital force would counteract the force of gravity, and the mean distribution of electons would travel in the centroid of the cable cross section. In the instance of interconnects, the terminals should be angled upward, to facilitate this trajectory (similar to aiming a morter).

Then there's corolis forces. The spin of the earth would still force the electrons to one side of the cable. To resolve this, the plane of the parabolic cables could be tilted toward the equator - with the degree of tilt being detemined the the azmuth of the cable cable run.

This is great. Made my day.
