Re: Informal Single Driver and Small Bookshelf Shootout in Austin TX
Leroy, I echo what Ray said, I would love to join you all when you do this again in Austin.
I have been back and forth in the minions thread and can't seem to find the part number/link for the minion III driver.
Can you just post it here, too?
If/when you all pull together an Austin thing, I have quite a few different designs we can listen too.
Thanks, Andy.

Re: Informal Single Driver and Small Bookshelf Shootout in Austin TX
The Minions III are 4.5" external dimensions or 4" internal dimensions. I built some enclosures with 5" external dimensions and got a little more bass extension from them, but my goal was small so I sacrificed a little low end for size. The hammered bronze ones you see in the pictures in my gallery thread are the 5" enclosures. If you don't mind bumping the internal dimensions up to 4.5" external to 5" using 1/4" mdf, you will get a little more low end.
Here is a link to the original Minions build thread. It also has some posts about the Minions II. The Minions II and III use the same enclosure, just a different driver.
Gallery thread
Using 1/4" mdf these are panel dimensions for the 4.5" external enclosures
Back 4" x 4"
Sides 4" x 4.25"
Top/Bottom 4.25" x 4.5"
Baffle 4.5" x 4.5"
It turns out I made a mistake apparently when building the pair Kevin and I were listening to. They are actually 4.75" external dimensions or 4.25" internal dimensions. I built those boxes a while ago so can't remember if I did it intentionally or if I just messed up. Either way anything from 4" to 4.5" internal dimensions sounds good.Last edited by Leroy R; 12-10-2013, 04:32 PM.

Yes, I'm going to have to find a place to get some plaquards made some day.
I hope you were being sarcastic about yours paling in comparison. It was how awesome your red metallic paint looked that inspired me to try the blue metallic.

Wolf,
You should send him a pair of placards like the one in your picture!

I'm not sure why I had the sub crossed at 60Hz previously. I haven't used that receiver for a while.

Thanks for the invite Leroy - maybe I will get through there someday. Austin looks like a great place for a music lover to hang out for awhile.

Johnny you are welcome here any time you want to come down. Would be a good reason to have a listening session.

Yes, they are beautifully painted and detailed - well done.
This is the kind of thing I would like to do once in awhile, but there just are not too many people in the very immediate area :(

Re: Informal Single Driver and Small Bookshelf Shootout in Austin TX
Sounds like a plan Ray. I have several projects in the works that we can listen to when they are finished. Aurbacs, Maurbacs and Maurbac towers, Stentorians and a few others. Unfortunately, those all use the same no longer available driver, but should be fun to listen to anyway.
We need to get a sunny day when I am off from work so I can get a better picture of the Sophomores in the sunlight.
