First off i would hurry up and upgrade her to wife status

I like the cambell/holtz design speakers alot! I'm just getting started on my finalists build which offer a little easier placement options than the statements and can "compete" with them for several hundred less. You could probably do a pair of finalists and a sub for that.

Thanks, I tried to find it but there were quite a few related pre-build threads that I did not follow. Jeff's design can be found here.

CJD's Ansonica build-thread and website. This curved build is also worth your time.

If they are just the front mains, and the GF I imagine will want to see attractive looking not too big speakers, I still reckon go for stylish looking drive units and keep it simple and minimalist looking.

Agreed, the Intimates come pretty close to that recommendation.

Some speaker 'porn' to wet your appetite! The pic on the left has the grille sitting on top. The brass badge says "Intimates".

I gotta agree with the "marry her" comments, here.

Also, with a budget of 1K, if you have any plans to make even a part time hobby out of this, I would convert some of that money into some measurement gear and build your own design.
Don't listen to me - I have not sold any $150,000 speakers.

Make her a pair of speakers for free and use the 1k + more of your own money for a ring

This may be a good way to go

                      Dennis Murphy's ER18MTM Ribbon

$716 before cabinet, veneer, and other parts and tools. Would be close to $1000 finished.

These kits sound somewhere between the $2000 Salk Songs and the $4000 Salk Veracity HT2.

The build I'm currently working on would come in at just under your budget for everything.

That's more than enough money to make a matching center channel too.

That's really interesting! Any hints as to when/what it might be?

2 way using the SS 15W8530K00 and a Hiquphon OW1 tweeter in a 14X8X13.5 (rough guess) ported cab. I know they sound really nice. do not say it often, but you have to hear the bass the understand how good it is.

p.s. I know because the speaker on his webpage named "untitled" is mine. uses a hiquphon OWIII.

I read RS180P in the first post and said to myself: Yay, I'll get to see what someone does with these! and then I went to the Parts Express site to look it up again and saw the out of stock notice...
