  • Bagby Design Seminar Meniscus Kit "Docere"

I was blessed to win the kit used in the Bagby design seminar last Saturday. I have started cabinet construction and plan to pick up the crossover components from Meniscus tomorrow.

Jeff, I figure you should be the one to name these...

                Don,
Mark said they would be available Christmas Eve, if I remember correctly. I don't recall him giving the woofer a mfr or model. The tweeter is the HDS. Jeff really likes this tweeter.

I'm not certain you will be able to post a schematic for this, as it will be property of Meniscus. The woofer will likely be badged as a Meniscus product.

Good call on the schematic--I got a warning about duplicate posts so I added some stuff.

                      A little update -

The speaker kit does have a name, I just forgot to mention it last Saturday. It will be listed on the Meniscus website as the "Docere", which means "to teach", chosen since it was part of the loudspeaker design workshop.

This will be a Meniscus kit and the design will belong to them. I wouldn't post the crossover details unless you get approval to do so from Mark. However, it may not be a big deal since the woofer can only be purchased from Meniscus in the first place.

The woofer does have a model name now. I just learned it today it will be the: Eclipse 6520R-4 woofer (Eclipse has been the Meniscus house brand name for years).

Mike, your cabinet looks really nice so far. I am looking forward to seeing the finished speaker. You'll have to let me know how a pair of them sounds. ;)

I'm really glad you are building these. I would love to hear what a pair sound like compared to the single we listened to. Also I bet your large (3/4"?) round overs make it sound even better.

Do you have any pictures of your bracing? Are you going to keep them sealed like Jeff had or try porting them?

Due to their T/S parameters they would need to be in a bigger box then mine to go ported or else you will get a hump in the midbass. (Some people may like that option, though I thought the bass was pretty good sealed.)

I agree Jeff. The bass was quite nice. I had forgotten but now remember you saying the T/S required a much larger enclosure. Didn't you or someone else there ask Jim Griffin to design a TL for these?

                              Jeff,
It appears that the pe .75 cu ft box will be a good fit, right?
