My son was complaining about the cold and snow until I showed him my pics of the 78 blizzard. hehe. not another word as we worked our way thru yesterday. of course if was all for naught this morning. I had to call off as all roads around me were closed except for emergency personnel. I did make it in for the afternoon and midnight shift. Right on lake MI it is -15 and about 50 ft up, we are getting about -70 wind chill. Looking to be a loooooookng night.

We got about 10 inches here. 'Bout -13 here now. Expected -20 tonight.

Well, I just spent about an hour out in it. The City's snow plows just gave a 4 foot wall of ice and snow at the end of my driveway. I had to dig it out so I could get out tomorrow.

Sounds like a typical MO winter.

Having lived in both the upper midwest and northern new england, I can vouch it is typically harsher in the midwest, not only in winter but in summer too.

My wife and I lived in SoCal for 15 years until we retired in 2003, then moved back to Ohio (near Columbus). When the weather is like this now, I keep reminding myself that being 10 minutes from our two daughters is way better than being in our townhome on a golf course in Rancho Santa Margarita, CA!:rolleyes:

In SoDak the last three or four years *have* been "back in the day the weather was worse". Record hot summers, and well above average snowfall, including several record breaking seasonal and daily amounts - remember the spring winter storms, and the fall super-blizzard? Those events bracketed a well above average hot summer. Late May we had frost on the car in the morning after a night of fishing.

Yes, back in the blizzard of '78 we had 6 ft of snow, and the windchill was -110, and I had to walk to school, 8 miles, and it was uphill, both ways......

Yeah, and there where 10 of us kids and we only had one pair of shoes that we had to share.

I stopped to see Johnny in Sioux Falls for a few minutes today. It was -15 and pretty windy but the sun was out so........with the 'heat index' it only felt like -12!

Sunday was so so cold up in the great north. -38 with -50 Celcius windchill. Thats winchill of -58 F for the USA. -20 is just everyday life, -30 is very cold, and below -35 you really just want to avoid the outdoors.
