I really wish the Weather reporters would tone down their use of "Wind Chill", I have observed some of them reporting wind chill before citing the actual temperature...This just creates confusion for those of us who just want the unfiltered version.

I work in the DC area with naval officers from our NATO allies, and this morning I went to the Canadian deputy to offer our surrender, saying they could have their air back. He declined.

In other news, my car -really- didn't want to shift into gear today.

Is there any harm leaving electronics in the -10 weather? I've got some old tape players I was given in the trunk of my car that are probably frozen in place. Figured I'd ask.

OK. Can't resist. Mathematical models are a representation of someone's idea of what reality might be - not reality. Time and data will determine if a model is an accurate representation of reality. Data points spanning a few decades, or centuries are simply inadequate to support or refute a model of something as complex and dynamic as climate. Because the data are inadequate to determine an accurate model. the models themselves become politicized. It will be millenia before we know which model is more accurate. The models now seem wildly underdetermined.

In the meantime, I continue to drive my Mercedes to offset the carbon footprint of the guy with the Prius down the street. It is the least I can do.

That graphic I posted nukes the climate models rone. The actual satellite data collected shows zero agreement with the models. Models are not science and they don't reflect reality. They are only as good as the theory that lays at the foundation of the programming.

Instead of throwing these nonsequitors at us about "bias", why not refute the satellite data?

And speaking of bias, who has the most to lose if funding of these ludicrous computer models is removed?

rone, as a scientist myself, who has studied what it means to gather data, formulate theory, run experiments to prove the premise, looking for the single example that destroys the argument, the satellite data tells me everything I need to know. The models are wrong, and the "scientists" who created them need to go back to the drawing board.

Actually someone else started the global warming talk. Pete just replied to it.
Only comment I'll make on it is: I don't see how making Al Gore a multimillionaire is going to stop the so called global warming.

And it's cold again this AM . I waited til it warmed up to -19° before going outside.

I don't have any problem with your opinions. You are entitled to them, whether informed or uninformed. I only object to where you choose to air them and the insane, disruptive passion with which you defend them on websites that have nothing to do with the topic.

I'm not concerned with CO2 fluctuations over hundreds of millions of years, only the effect on human life now. I don't see these fluctuations during the time of homo sapiens. Now if you have a graph clarifying that, I'd like to see it. Thanks.

Anyone can read the satellite data. Even you. It's not that complicated.

Anyone can choose to ignore my signature. It's not irrelevant to me. Typical Alinskyite . . . ban the speech you disagree with.

Especially funny after watching Mythbusters last night do Star Wars myths, including the stuff Luke inside the Taunton's belly to survive the blizzard scene...

I'm not going to say anything about 77F temps and clear skies, nope, not going to be that guy.... :D

Figured I'd post this before this thread gets closed...

We were without power for 5.5 hrs tonight, pending -18 deg outside in the early morning. 7:15pm - 12:45am down, in blankets and hoping it would come back on. Apparently the whole town was without power, resultant from a transformer blowing up. Dropped from 76 deg to 58 deg inside before it was restored. We have a few water pipes froze to the tub, but all else are free and working.

    Stay warm and safe everyone!
    Wolf

Two metrics commonly ignored by deniers

There is more, of course. The preponderance of evidence points towards not only global warming - but it being influenced, if not outright the result of, civilization.

The first is accurate, and correlates with rising temperatures.

The second refutes the "sun controls the climate, well duh" crap.

Since the politicization of the topic, the deniers have become more and more vehement, not to mention downright obtuse on the subject.

To flip Pete's question on end, who stands to lose if man-made global warming proves true (and it already has been)?

This being said, have a nice day gentlemen
Another refusing to address the data. Surprise surprise surprise.

How convenient that you only go back 650,000 years.

Man made warming has never been "proven true."

The graph shows reality vs. prediction. Prediction is the black line (average) of the accepted climate models. The satellite data shows an increase using 1979 as the zero line. The reality is far lower than the models. In other words, the models are all lousy for predicting reality, meaning what ever reasoning is behind the models and their forcing functions is wrong, plain and simple. Computer models simply cannot predict climate yet. The earth's climate is far more complex than any of the models and they simply can't account for everything, as the satellite data so obviously shows.

Why is it that so many will cling to the models and ignore the reality of the data?

Left at the beginning of the storm. Spent 14.5 hours driving what should have taken 9.5, and had to detour to little rock instead of Tulsa. Currently in Amarillo, TX, and its only 15° here, which is crazy for Texas.

I spent a lot of time going 25mph down the interstate and tallied up 15 jackknifed or overturned semis, 6 passenger cars, and saw only 3 plows. It was the worst conditions I've ever driven in.

75° Los Angeles here I come!
