    Re: Received my W6520R-4 drivers!

Pulled out the Exodus 6.5 with the neo magnet and that is the frame that looks
like this one. The odd thing, is that at least this frame looks to have two glue
lips for the spider, the Exodus uses the very small one whereas this Meniscus
woofer looks to use the larger one.

    Here is the Exodus 6.5:

IIRC, one of the Accuton drivers uses the frame, and the Zaph midwoofer, and the MCM 55-3870 use what amounts to a 5" version.
Don't listen to me - I have not sold any $150,000 speakers.

Does the Meniscus woofer frame have the two glue lips?
Does it look like the spider would hit the lower lip under max excursion?

It looks like it *might* have the second cast in, but without removing the spider, it is hard to tell for sure.

It is clearly visible though the air vent slots below the spider,
about .25" in from the outside. But you probably have the
ceramic magnet in the way obstructing your view.

Yeah, magnet blocks view. FWIW, I would be very surprised if it was not there. However, depressing cone manually to bottom out point does not seem to deform spider as if it were hitting something so barring non-linearities in spider behavior when hammering bass out, at this point I would not be concerned I guess.

                Thanks, good to know.
The Exodus frame measures 6 25/32" or just about 1/32 over 6.75 inches.
Is W6520R-4 the same? This would be good because so many are over 7",
                some around 7 1/8".

                  Same frame OD.

Thanks, looks like I have to buy a pair, lol!
I like what I see so far in this woofer.

I think I'm going to go with a very different alignment with these. Yeah they seem to be able to dig deep in .75 cf ported. But I'm going much smaller, sealed enclosure, with a variovent (aperiodic). Shooting for a Qtc of .6 or less. Then actively high pass them and let a nice RS315HF sub or two do the bottom end work.

I would go with a lower moving mass driver if you don't need the low end.

Lots of Guisound drivers and the Airborne stuff also use this frame style.

It's a fairly common and strong basket.

IIRC, I think maybe the old Extremis also uses it. I'd have to go look to find out.....

Would there be any interest for me to measure FR and distortion on one of these on my 4' x 4' baffle this weekend? I have an insert that it would fit on but it would be surface mounted not flush mounted.

Remember, since this was the seminar woofer, frd and zma files, not to mention box modeling and PCD simulations were all in that package I had set up for download. If you downloaded it then some of those files may be beneficial to you.
