Re: Measuring Leroy R's Minions III

I have been very happy with my Minion III's so far. I am listening to them now and I think they sound great for a pair of little full range drivers. One of the things I like best about them is the mid-range. I am going to build a voxel sub next to fill in the bottom end. But at this point because I have to listen to them at low levels at work they work fine even without the sub.

I was thinking about these for surrounds. I need small surrounds with on wall mounting capability. Super cost effective too!

Yep, exactly where these are going.

Just stuffed & wired the first set of IIIs a few minutes ago. Not a lot of bass of course, but still pretty zippy wired 1:1 with no correction... certainly more than adequate for the intended surround duty as-is.

When we compared the Minion III's with the Sprite and Wolf's PC Speakers the others had the Minions beat in the bass dept, but the mid-range and highs were much better then the PC's and Sprite that if you were going to incorporate a sub then the Minions were the best choice. But if you don't have something for the bottom end then the PC's or Sprite were the better choice.

But since I do not listen to a lot of bass heavy music the Minions on my desk have been doing very well without a sub.

Can see them being well-suited to desktop use... as mentioned elsewhere, once you get within two feet and somewhat off-axis between the pair they sound surprisingly solid.
