  • 10" woofer for 3 way

So im narrowing down my choices for a woofer in a 3 way build. Now that ive acquired a DEQX active crossover and a rotel 6 channel amp I can start having some fun with all manner of drivers. Will also have a dedicated high power pro amp for the woofer.

Ive decided on side firing woofers / subs (one per enclosure) to keep my baffle narrow (enough to accomodate a 7" mid) on the 27L cabinet. The plan is to keep the side firing woofers crossed steeply at 250hz

Im looking for a 10" with enough extension and spl for HT but with ability to play clean and detailed up to 250hz. I have heard subs that shake a room but dont reproduce kick drum with authority. I dont understand why but im hoping to get some recommendations for subs that will suit my tastes.

The DEQX and active power are a good start for a better sounding kick drum, no matter what your final woofer choice.

What enclosure volume do you have for the 10" sub?

Im really looking forward to using the DEQX phase and group delay correction.

With 1 cuft are you wanting to go sealed on the sub?

How low do you want to go?

Any way you could do 2 cu ft?
              Budget?

sealed or vented, have no preference. As low as possible but at least f3 of 30hz at decent spl for a medium sized room.

No budget, I'm happy to spend to get quality. however I can't go over 1 cu ft.

I have parametric EQ at my disposal so i can shape the response and roll off as much as the sub xmax can take

                    What's your budget?

I have a pair of Scan Revelator Aluminum cone 10" woofers that have the ability to dig very deep in the right vented enclosure and have no problem crossing well above 250Hz if need be.

The RSS265HF also fits the requirements.

                      Dayton RSS265HF-4 in 27L and 3db boost at 30hz gives f3 of 26hz.

And with 240W gets to 107db @ 30hz for one driver before exceeding xmax.

                      Not bad I guess.

Been thinking about this since that budget 3-way thread. My choice: SB29NRX75-6.

Pete, what size box would you recommend to the SS10"? Have you measured the t/s? Do you have the 4 or 8 ohm version?

http://www.parts-express.com/dayton-...-coil--295-510 I would model thses sealed with some boost at the bottom to see if they have enough headroom for you.

I'd need to model them, not sure how well they'd do in such a small enclosure

I just read elsewhere that the RSS265 does not play well higher than 100hz. Shame as it models quite well.
