There are many comments about how power hungry this sub is. Im not sure if 450w is gonna cut it.

I'd need to model them, not sure how well they'd do in such a small enclosure

I just read elsewhere that the RSS265 does not play well higher than 100hz. Shame as it models quite well.

I don't know what else you've read, but the RSS265 does fine to well beyond 400Hz. And I've used the RSS315HF as a woofer in a 3-way with a 2nd order 350Hz crossover with no problems at all.

Dan Neubecker used it in his HOSS design a while back.

I have no idea what the "teeter totter" is in reference to in that link. The RSS subs have a ringing cone like any metal cone, but it's well above 1KHz, even in the 12" woofer. Dan's posted response plot of the RSS265HF was exemplary with smooth, flat response to almost 1KHz before things started to get a little non-linear. Wolf used the RSS210HF in his "Attitudes" crossed at 800Hz and those speakers are still considered "top shelf." The only thing I can think of as to why the linked description has issues may have been due to some faulty conditions with the driver, like a loose dustcap or something else.

Since I'm in a similar boat, I've been shopping options as well. I'm pretty much narrowed down to the Acoustic Elegance TD10(s or h) drivers.

There are 4 different versions to choose from, depending on your needs. In your particular application, the H or the S version look the most fitting:

You can choose between a bit more efficiency or smaller box. I don't know if these fit your budget or needs entirely, but I'd give them a look. More than likely, this is the route I'll be going.

Voice coil inductance alone does not tell the whole story.
I doubt you could hear any difference simply due to VC inductance in a blind test.

One indicator of higher inductance is higher flux modulation which results in increased distortion higher up. Not saying that would be a bad sub at all, but not ideal as a "woofer" in a 3-way.

Sure, but what typically happens is that midrange distortion starts suffering as a result.

Gents, thanks for the replies, however I've decided to ditch the side firing approach and use a pair of small subs, front mounted instead. This gives me a bit more flexibility. Plus I feel the 10" was being wasted in a such a small volume.
