  • New CSS tweeters

Just in case you haven't seen them yet:

Cost is $70 for a pair. There's also some kits using these tweeters with VWR126X that will drop into off-the-shelf Dayton cabinets.

Hmm. I seem to remember someone who posted recently about getting to play with a tweet in the 35$ range that was excellent and could hang with the best. Gee wonder who that could be :D

That was my quote, and although I have a pair of the new CSS LD22C tweeters to work with, I was actually referring to a different tweeter with my statement (The SB Acoustics SB26STCN).

I know there was quite a bit of fuss over the variance in samples of the LD25X, but I still consider the samples I had to rate it as one of the best tweeters I have ever worked with.

The LD22C is made completely different. Rather than an aluminum faceplate and rear chamber it is all plastic, but the new design eliminates the quality issues of the LD25X.

Since they are identical in diameter I measured them head to head. They have a vey similar response, and the LD22C actually extends a little bit deeper before roll-off, it has a little lower Fs too. It also has a large surround for the small dome. The LD25X was an 8 ohm tweeter, whereas the LD22C is 4 ohm. I need to do some more measurements like CSD and better distortion tests to really be able to place the LD22C among other tweeters.

I actually redesigned the crossover for my CSS Triton for the new LD22C tweeter, but I don't know how viable it is since I haven't tested it.

The LD22C doesn't measure like it has copper in the motor though, as it has about double the inductance of the SB26STCN. The SB26 has a bit smoother frequency response too. Just sitting on the floor with mic about 6" away, and using the same reference level the SB26 and LD22C has almost identical distortion profiles above 1khz, both of which I would consider quite good.

I knew it was. I wasn't sure if that was the tweeter though but it seemed a very good possibility.

          Re: New CSS tweeters

I had a mis-matched pair of the LD25X for the Last Hurrahs, and I thought about moving to the LC22C. However, Dan N made available a tested and matching pair of LD25X. Now that I have had time to listen to them - I have to agree that they are very, very good.

The Last Hurrahs were my last very large, very heavy speakers. However, I never said I would not build more smaller speakers. Perhaps the Ld22C will have a role.

I have a pair of LD22C and they match bang on. Gonna try these and this new SB above in my bookshelf speaker project I've been doing lately.

That sure looks allot like a Wavecor driver.

They do a bit, and carry a wavecor price as well. The tweeters are priced for a pair, but it looks like these woofers are priced at $95 each, which makes them pretty pricey, so they better be good.

That is a very good looking woofer, cosmetically at least. I like the frame, as well. The impedance curve hints at a lot of good stuff happening in the motor, too.
Don't listen to me - I have not sold any $150,000 speakers.

No these tweeters are made in Canada assembly done on site at CSS.

I think he was referring to the LDW7 woofer linked above.

Will these tweeters be available at Meniscus and if so, how soon?
