This experiment started with a Beyma 10g40 as the woofer. Although an excellent woofer, I did not like how it matched up with this tweeter/waveguide combo. I was fortunate to get my hands on some AT 18h woofers, so I thought I would take a shot at a little moniter to see how these two components stack up. This is V1. I am mainly interested in the extension of the AT as well as the bass it is able to produce at reasonable listening levels. I have kept the waveguide, but if the woofer has the extension, I may try without. Ill post measurements this weekend.

What do you mean the Beyma didn't match up? Measurably? Audibly?

On the other hand, I have a feeling he's going to love what that 18H can do. It's a perfect match for that tweeter/guide combo.R = h/(2*pi*m*c) and don't you forget it! || Periodic Table as redrawn by Marshall Freerks and Ignatius Schumacher || King Crimson Radio

The Beyma is a great woofer. I am not sure if its was the larger transition from 10" to small tweeter or that this particulr tweeter did not want to be crossed in the 1.5K area, but something wasnt quite right. I figured out that the rear port was causing most of my LF troubles, so that is no problem. In the future, I will not have the port firing in the opposite direction of a woofer if it is to be used down low. Just do not like how it sounds and the hump it causes in the response. Modeled the same thing when trying one on the C Queenze. Hope to get to measurements today. May wait and build the other side. If it sounds good, I do not want to have to wait to listen.

As is my luck, one of the C Quenze was damaged in shipping. One section of the frame is bent slightly and the jarring apparently knocked the voice coil out of alignment. I dont have bass, I have buzzzzzz. Officially dead in the water. Sucks as the sound was very promising from the first unit.

Played with the good driver over the weekend. It sounds good enough that I will be sourcing another one to replace the bent frame one. There is lots of potential here. Quick question. Those with experience, do you find that waveguides hurt imaging and soundstage or improve it? I do not like the woofer when it is pushed hard. Makes me want to do a side firing PP pair of woofers like RS225 or Vifa NE225 to relieve the bottome end, as this woofer is very capable in the midrange. Cant say that I dont wonder about the underhung version.
