I just cant help but think how hard these would rock, and how good they would sound at the same time.

Just doing a quick add up of the drivers alone will be $420.00 not including crossover parts. So I would imagine it be a $500.00 bare bones kit from madisound. I little too rich for my blood at the moment. But it looks like it would be a great build!

the xo's would be around $120 also. couldn't find the .30mh coil and the 1.2uf cap...so i guesstimated. didn't look all that hard though.

Very nice design. What kind of bass do these little guys kick out? What is the F3 of this design?

Wonder if he'll have an associated center channel?

I think i'm a 2 channel kind of guy. I really love my center channel but I hate what the processing does to my left and right when I have 5.1/7.1 processing on! Still need to file my taxes hopefully its enough to build something.

well I do have four of the woofers and the sb tweeters already.

If you bring your plywood or mdf to Augusta, GA I'll machine it on my CNC for you. Give me a couple days advance notice to gin up the cutting files. I want to hear them too!

Re: The Uluwatu - another new Curt C design?!

Is there a reason to use 4 drivers for the .5 section instead of 2 ? Unless I'm wrong they'll never be used to their full excursion potentiel since the MTM will limit how much power you can feed them. The only thing I can think of is :

                        - Look
                        - Keeping impedance higher (6-8 ohm design instead of 4)
                        - Dispertion patern ?
                        - Lowered distortion on .5 woofers since there is more driver sharing the load.

One final question, won't the MTM move more (excursion) then the .5 part and if so, what is the impact of sharing the same volume ? Eg : The .5 will work half as much as MTM section since there is 4 of them vs 2 for the MTM section.

                        Thanks,
                        Chuck

It looks cool, and Curt is a good designer, but I wouldn't call 92 dB high sensitivity. My current project is 98dB/ 2.83V and I would consider that high sensitivity for what it is. My little towers are 94 - 95 dB and I consider that the bottom rung of "higher sensitivity".

What you say is true regarding true high sensitivity designs Jeff, but 92 db is still 3 to 6 db above many designs and that isn't nothing. It looks like these dig pretty deep in the bass for the sensitivity they do have. To reach to the 30's with 92 db sensitivity in a box that size (not that it's a small box) is doing pretty well.

We're just so used to making small stand mounted speakers around here that have sensitivity in the 83-85 dB range for the little monitors to 87 dB for the larger ones; I think it skews our thinking. But once you get to larger floor standing designs the potential easily exists for it to go up, especially if you use multiple woofers. For a multiple woofer floor-stander I would call 92 pretty average. I guess given its size I think it should be compared to other speakers its size and not what we have become accustomed to from mini-monitors. Still, I think it's a nice speaker, I don't want to take away from that, and it does appear to have very good bass extension from the small woofers.

I totally agree with all that. I'm sure your 98 db design is not all that huge, but probably will get a subwoofer for the last octave or two. Getting 98 or 100 db sensitivity down low requires some VOLUME:eek:
