  • Amp for my Sundown Audio SA-12 Dual 2 ohm sub

Because I have no car, my car audio gear has now become my home audio gear. I've got a Sundown Audio SA-12 dual 2 ohm subwoofer. I'm looking for a amp to drive them, but i'm nervous about the reliability of various amps on PE. Form off board amps to plate maps, i don't want to buy from PE, get it shipped over to the UK (at a tremendous shipping cost!!) only to have it fail, then go through the expense of sending the thing back.

Away from that, any advice on what's out there. I was looking at some Emotiva amps, but any suggestions would be helpful.

Budget - I'm looking to invest in an amps at the latter part of the year, but i was looking around $300-400 tops.
    Power - Around 300 - 500 watts, don't care if its class D.

    I would prefer a single channel amp, but if there's a 2 channel that's bridgeable ....
    I was looking at this

Or should I just get a Peavy amp or some form of PA amp/power amp and a volume controller?

Do you have 1 or 2 subwoofers to drive? First you say a subwoofer, then you say them!

Wired in series for a four ohm load any plate amp would work. You might want to look for one in your country for easiest service.

You could also use a crown amp. But often you will need a rca to balanced converter ($50) to get the levels up.

          I second what Duanebro said.

          I have this amp: http://www.parts-express.com/crown-x...ifier--245-502

and needed to use this to get the line-level outputs to an acceptable level: http://www.parts-express.com/art-cle...erter--245-868

It's a little more than you wanted to spend, though.
That amp was recommended to me my several folks here, and it's pretty powerful and works good as a sub amp with it's built in crossover. Plus, you won't have any ground hum issues with it I don't think.
Also, consider that it's flexible for future changes in gear... for instance, you could run your existing dual voice coil 2 ohm sub directly from the R and L outputs now, or later on, wire them in series to make a four ohm load connected to one channel of the amp, and hook up another sub on the other channel in the future. Lots of options with that amp.

I use a Bash 500w plate amp. Plently loud for the SA12 I have it paired with.
