You might make it from SD to Chicago with that amp as a carry on, but good luck trying to get thru security at ORD with that thing on your way back home. You'd end up giving it to me and I would not ship it back to you. :p

You might make it from SD to Chicago with that amp as a carry on, but good luck trying to get thru security at ORD with that thing on your way back home. You'd end up giving it to me and I would not ship it back to you. :p

Well, poop on it. The right channel is fubar on this thing. Doesn't cut in until things are LOUD on the left channel. It isn't the ALPS pot - that is used to control entire system volume, and headphone output is just fine. Either the amp board itself, or my switching relay. I double checked all of my wiring and connections, and that is all proper.


I enjoy troubleshooting, and electrical troubleshooting was my main focus the last six or seven years but man, what a disappointment on this thing. I swear I didn't have a problem with it when I tested it yesterday. Dammit.


Next step is to swap channels on the relay board (which operates with nary a click or pop when switching between headphone and speaker amps by the way) to see if problem follows. If it doesn't - who wants to buy a slightly used Sure 2050 based amp board?

The lid has to be seen to really get an impression from it. The surface is nearly glass-like. Lots of glossy clear, wet-sanding and polishing on that.

Arliss had a Sure 100 x 2 board fail as well.

I am just bummed it did it between the garage and the kitchen table. I have to take that failure personally lol.

That's the one thing about DIY amps that kills me. The thrill of victory followed by the agony of defeat. With speakers, you can fix the crossover. When amps fail, you trash them.

JR: I used dowels to secure the lid on my wood case, it worked out just fine. Pick up 4 of those dowel inserts to help with hole alignment.

The dowels project about 3/4 of an inch and provide a nice snug fit to the chassis.
