I modeled a 6-1/2" DVC sub in .5 ft tuned to 40 hz and got 10mH, 150uf for each coil. Adding a 10mH, 500uf, 6ohm LCR comp to each coil cuts 3.5db from the nasty 80hz peak and achieves a 110hz LR2 slope. That's a lot of copper- 4 big coils for 1 driver!

Wouldn't it be better to get a car amp with a built-in sub x-o and level control/boost? A really small box will benefit from some low end boost.

the amps that i have access to that have this capability draw more power and are quite a bit more expensive. my original plans didn't call for a sub. you know how i build :p
as for the boost i think it'll have it over the OS's , there's gonna be a 100w on the sub and only about 25 to each OS , i was thinking that might be an issue ...

sat down with my manager this morning and i think we came up with the best and cheapest solution. he took back my gauge HU and swapped it out for a Sony that has sub out and DSP . i'll also now have a CD player too along with everything but bluetooth ... what y'all think ?

**edit ** he!! with it , for another $25 i got the Sony with blutooth ....

Sony wired in and running and i'm going through the manual , lots of reading to do !

gonna try to get this all together over this long weekend . rite now it's spread out over the kitchen counter and i haven't cooked in a few days . even the dog is getting tired of pizza ... lol

putting a sub in has become a pain in the azz ... after wiring in the Sony and letting it play a while i was working on my final sketch when it dawned on me that i'm gonna have to address massive air leaks from the head unit mount . gonna have to do a box within a box and change my dimensions yet one more time ... uhg

in that pic i have only one sub hooked up , one channel to each voice coil . just playing around i have it crossed at 80hz and the slope set on 3 (1-3) and i'm guessing the most gradual . i just got done setting the 10 band EQ and everything sounds pretty damn good !!!

very happy ! i've really enjoyed listening to this last night and this morning ... today i'm off to HD looking for attachments , if i cant find anything i like i'll order online . also need PVC for the port . hope to get the sub/electronics box built tomorrow ...

I'll bet it sounds fantastic..I built one similar though I'm stuck at being able to attach and detach the speakers..I ordered some super strong neo magnets thinking I'd just imbed them into the satellites,using magnetic/s to hold them together ...anyone know if neo magnets field can interfere with the speaker mechanics?

Should be OK. Many use them to hold grills on.
