  • 2x250 IRS2092 amp build

Finally got this done and playing. Very simple build. If I can do it, so can you. I used this amp modual from Parts Express. http://www.parts-express.com/2x250w-...board--320-313
    with a 45va Toridial form Antek.http://www.antekinc.com/an-10445-100...v-transformer/
It was thought I might be a little HOT but all said and done it puts out 64.6 volts under a load. Whew!
The PSU uses 8 per side caps from Apexjr. 2 bux per! 4700x 8 for 37000 per rail. I read a bunch but pretty much copied Hong's. I used a softstart module I got from ebay and a unit that turned 12vac to 12dc I bought from AJ. works like a charm to power a 12vdc fan and 12vdc truck light to show its on. Case is form Parmetal and was about $100. this is destined for my theater so I wanted it to blend. Feel free to ask questions.

BTW, nobody made a board big enough so I make my own from plexi.

Cool Arlis. I like what you did. Total cost + $350?

Probably closer to $325. The case added a lot and this can be done with a lower va torodial but the 800 was out of stock so I went with the 1000. 600 would do fine. This build was to be overkill from the start. With a home made wooden box and smaller Toroid, it could be built much cheaper.

You have them in series/parallel arrangement. That is 9400uF/'side'. Only parallel adds (doubles) capacitance. In series they will halve, but carry twice the voltage capacity.

Awesome Lowell! I was going to ask you about the amp's progress, but I'm glad it's done. Did you paint the case, or did you buy it anodized black?

I have a question, is the piece of plate metal between the Transformer and the amp in the second pic above there for some type of shielding, or as a heat shield from the amp?

                          Thanks Tom.
Yes, copper shielding between the Transformer and amp. It generates no sound at the speakers without input.

Here is another example. These are polarized caps. I used two of them with the + of one and - of the other joined to form the 'ground' for the amp.
