  • Tritrix center porting?

I have the Tritrix TL's and want to build a ported CC. I plan to build it with front firing port/s that can be hid behind the grille. I will do a slightly modified enclosure 24Wx6.5Hx12-14D. I will adjust the depth for proper box spec. should I do 2 ports (1 on each end of box) or just 1 port on 1 side? Does/will it make an acoustic difference? How do I calculate for 2 ports if I go that route? Either way I will use slot ports as opposed to tubes. I also am going to build the MT's ported as surrounds
This is my first HT project, however I used to work in a car stereo shop. I just can't remember the rules for porting. (it's was about 15-20 years ago, while in college) All the boxes I've made in the past were for subs in trunks of cars, not HT and placement was not much of an issue.
Thanks in advance for your help and advice. ;)

Welcome to the forum. I'm not sure about changing from one vent to two. Slot ports? Hmm, I think you'll need a way to calculate the dimensions. With Jeff Bagby's PCD tools, there's the Box Modeler, maybe that will help with the dimensions:

Or WinISD could help, but I haven't done any slot ports before.

For regular round port "tubes", I've used WinISD for decades and have always gotten great results for both vented and sealed enclosures. If you have any questions about the programs, I know someone here can help with any specifics. Good luck with your project.

Having that narrow of a baffle could change things. Someone else will chime in on what changing baffle width will do. Also don't change the driver spacing and orientation. I have a front ported Tritrix setup, and it does a great job with home theater. As for the port(s), if you did the 8" baffle you could squeeze a round port under the tweeter.Hope this is helpful.

on Curts site he show the vented box dims as 20Wx6.5Hx14.25D, so really I'm just stretching it a little wider (for the ports) and taking away some depth to maintain enclosure volume. I don't think the speakers care about physical dimensions of the enclosure, just volume size and in this case port tuning.
I've read many times not to change the driver/tweeter relation/spacing. and I plan on keeping Curts spacing since that will effect crossover design.

I'd say (for simplicity's sake - seeing as though they'd be hidden by a grill) that a slot on one end, that's 3/4"w x 5"h x 7" long (deep) should maintain Curt's tuning (close to 40Hz).

I was told once that I might get away with 1/2" but not 1"....just sayin. .i think the crossover has alot to do with baffle width....

              Re: Tritrix center porting?

I found the info I was looking for about ports http://www.jlaudio.com/header/Suppor...e+Ports/287541
If I decide to go the single port route, I will do a 1x3x6.25L slot port right under the tweeter, in between the mid drivers. This box would have to be 24Wx6.5Hx12.5D, giving an adjusted volume of .69cu.ft (19.5l)
If I go with dual ports, I will do 1.25x1.25x6.75L square ports with 1 on each end. This box would have to be 24Wx6.5Hx13D, giving an adjusted volume of .71cu.ft (20l)

So, my question is will there be an acoustic difference between the two? Either way, as I said before I will keep the MTM spacing/placement as it was designed, with the 2 mid drivers 10.25" on center from each other and the tweeter sandwiched between and offset to the top. On Curts website he does mention the importance of baffle width, but I believe he's referring to my H. I may be wrong, that's why I'm running this by you guys, many of which have far more experience than I do.
              Thanks again
