Ran the PA380 thru WBCD, and it'll do mid 30's F3 in 4 cubes, breaching xmax at 30Hz with 150 watts. But that's producing 115 dB SPL, so I think they'll go loud enough for you without hurting the woofers... :D;)
You go your way, I'll go mine. I don't care if we get there on time.

      Looks like a fun project.

I've got a big 3-way already - impedance being their weak point - with some smaller stuff more recently.

Couple things I learned that may be helpful - my boxes are 24" deep (14" wide, 50" tall,) so even when placed on wall I ended up needing almost full baffle step. What I didn't need is flat modeled response in the box tuning - even though it's sealed (dual RS270's) response into the 20's is solid.

      Enjoy your journey.

What about a Pro woofer like the PA380? Decent enough xmax, 28Hz Fs, low Qts. Plus it's 98 dB sensitive, and less money than the DCS305.

Go big or go home, right?

        Mark
Well the PA380 in 83L with a pair of 4" ports 9" long (43.8Hz tune) has f3/6/10 of 43.8/39/34. SPL with 1w is 95! Won't go real low, but makes up for it with volume! And the price ain't bad! With 100w input we have 115db and xmax exceeded at about 32Hz. With 200w we have 118db and xmax limit at 38Hz.

HAHA Mark beat me too it. If we are going to use this woofer, how about the 10 as mid???? And waveguide the top end!?!?!?! LOL I know WAY beyond this scope just playing

I know woofer hasn't been decided yet, but who likes a pair of these SB Acoustics mids. Price is great. Response is nice. $27 for SB Acoustics is a great price.

I went with a bigger box tuned lower, gives it a little bit of a hump at the knee, but nothing really untoward. 100 liters tuned to 36, same exact port config.

While I really do like SB, I just don't like the frame. For flush mounting, they are a pain. Not to take them out of consideration, just my thoughts.

Just gotta make a template. More work, that's true, but once it's done they'll look awesome. I like that mid choice. A lot.

The DS315 has a 150 Hz peak that would be nice for BSC. Similar to Zaph's SB 12.3. You're right though, it does drop below that more than I would prefer. Could do a bass boost with a BFC (big cap). No, that didn't help.

No doubt non round frames are a MAJOR detractor for any driver that needs flush mounting.

I just figure we will need a pair of really affordable mids or a single that has above average efficiency.

Like mark said, it can be done, just a little more effort. My thinking was more about the newer guys that don't yet have that skill.

So, is a 12“ in 3 cubic feet vented still a possibility? Any bigger than that and it just seems like the cabinet becomes more of an issue than I'd like at this point or price.

12 is still an option I think.

Thanks for the advice. I suspect you are correct on that.

For a BIG rockin 70-80's style three way, IMO only a 15" woofer will do!

I nominate the DCS380 for efficiency, extension and affordability.
