I was looking for alternatives to speaker cable. I work at an electrical product distributor so I have all sorts of cable at my disposal, except speaker cable. We mostly deal with industrial, marine and offshore products. Would a SO (extension cord cable) work good for this? Opinions are greatly appreciated.

Re: Alternatives to speaker cable?
There's no such thing as "speaker cable." It's mere wire. Any that's appropriate gauge will do just fine. I usually use mil spec hookup wire, because the Teflon insulation makes the overall package thin for a given gauge and the silver plate is suitably snobby to shut up wire religionists.--
"Based on my library and laboratory research, I have concluded, as have others, that the best measures of speaker quality are frequency response and dispersion pattern. I have not found any credible research showing that most of the differences we hear among loudspeakers cannot be explained by examining these two variables." -Alvin Foster, 22 BAS Speaker 2 (May, 1999)

Re: Alternatives to speaker cable?
I like the Beldon two conductor with shield and drain wire for in walls. I can use this for LFE to a sub or speakers. The drain wire when grounded eliminates any AC hum. I've also use Cat 5 and Cat 6 twisted pairs for interconnects and hook up for mids and tweeters.

Re: Alternatives to speaker cable?
10 gauge "speaker" wire from MCM has never done me wrong...
Its not technically an alternative as its sold as such, but for the price, you can do no wrong. (56$ for 50 feet)
I use the same, but cant seem to upload a pic today... PE forums acting up?
