    you're absolutely right, but for the price... i couldn't say no, and it complemented my cocobolo cable elevators off my anti static zapped carpet. (kidding... :P)

    You really don't need something that large a gauge until you need a 200 ft or longer run.

    10 gauge "speaker" wire from MCM has never done me wrong...
    Its not technically an alternative as its sold as such, but for the price, you can do no wrong. (56$ for 50 feet)


    I use the same, but cant seem to upload a pic today... PE forums acting up?

    I like the Beldon two conductor with shield and drain wire for in walls. I can use this for LFE to a sub or speakers. The drain wire when grounded eliminates any AC hum. I've also use Cat 5 and Cat 6 twisted pairs for interconnects and hook up for mids and tweeters.

    There's no such thing as "speaker cable." It's mere wire. Any that's appropriate gauge will do just fine. I usually use mil spec hookup wire, because the Teflon insulation makes the overall package thin for a given gauge and the silver plate is suitably snobby to shut up wire religionists.

    SO cord will work fine. In wall you can use THHN as well. I wired my Family Room and Master Bedroom for HT using THHN since I had a lot of it and I had the walls open during a remodel anyway.

    Alternatives to speaker cable?

    I was looking for alternatives to speaker cable. I work at an electrical product distributor so I have all sorts of cable at my disposal, except speaker cable. We mostly deal with industrial, marine and offshore products. Would a SO (extension cord cable) work good for this? Opinions are greatly appreciated.
