Re: RS-P WWMTM 3 Way underway ( pic heavy )

i got the parts from PE on friday and was kinda shocked at the size of theses caps and has not to happy with how they shipped the diaphragm . it was loose in a bag thrown into the box with the rest of the parts . it did have a plastic cylinder that it sat in but was not attached to it in any way and came loose and got smashed . but PE has great customer service , i called and a new one should be here tomorrow . the coils and caps from Josh will be here today , i can't wait to hear it !

here is the tweeter circuit twisted together sans one small coil ...

Just wonderin' what that 1/4w (1/2w ?) resistor is doing? That's another (larger) resistor in parallel, right?

yes , 2ohm mills . the 1w is there to adjust to proper value . Josh would have to explain more ...

The initial sim is 1.75 ohms. So I estimated the highest value we would want (2 ohms) and planned on trimming with 15 ohm 1w resistors until we are satisfied.

          2 ohms + 15 ohms = 1.76 ohms

          1.76 ohms + 15 ohms = 1.58 ohms

          1.58 ohms + 15 ohms = 1.43 ohms

It's a cheap and easy way to do the important job of getting the tweeter level perfect. The 1 w resistors are high quality and cost 9 cents ea.

Chris, I thought you were gonna sim this design, too. I sent a variety of components so we could try different stuff.

thanks Josh , i'm at work and didn't have the time to go through all our notes to find that ....

I did run one initially to validate the general design.

its not pretty but it will work for voicing and measurements ...

she is playing . first impression is that it lacks low end , mids and highs are sharp and clear . going over some female vocal tracks with piano and am happy . will let it break in a lil more before i go crazy on the volume knob but she do get loud ...

Be sure to double check all polarities. A 1.5 volt battery will confirm that woofers move in the same direction.

For the mids, listen for a center image. If the polarity of one speaker differs from the other, it usually steers some sound to the side that should be straight ahead.

Tweeters are harder to tell for sure sometimes, and they can sound good even when one is reversed.

Measuring should reveal, or confirm things, but sometimes a quick wire swap tells you right away.

With so many drivers in use, odds are that at least one is wired wrong. I would say it should be expected. The fun part is finding which one. It's especially fun doing so by ear.

i double checked by eye as i was putting it together . we have the upper end reversed as it is . will let it play tonight before i start messing around , i'm spent rite now ... i also wonder how much of it is that i'm only listening to one speaker ...

3hrs in and the bass is waking up . i think this is due to break in and also getting used to it . one speaker is a lil thin and i'm also used to having two 12's and a dual 6" 100w sub box . i now have Disturbed Asylum at an insane volume and loving it ! no excursion issues with the 125's (whew) , still may need to tone down the upper end a tic but this thing is a beast !

The gating looks to be rather high, and your highpass is still on, althogh the setting may be fine if its low enough.

Show us the impulse as well as the gated measurement. If you are set up right, you should be able to take the gating down to about 300 hz, or slightly lower. The ideal thing to do now is to measure the tweeter only, and see if it looks correct. Then do the same for the mids. Measure them together. Show both on the same graph, and then measure them at the same time without the woofers.

May I also suggest changing the scale of the graph to 5 dB, and limiting the range to about 100 hz to 20k.
